Puttlng my cues away

Yesterday, I put my cues back in the case after playing only one hour. Tears of frustration in my eyes. Shots I could make 80% of the time, I was missing 80% of the time.

I knew I had cataracts, but they've gotten worse. Left eye pretty dim. Straight lines look wavy...all the classic symptoms. Right eye still seems okay, tho at the last visit I was told I have a "minor" cataract there as well.

Well hell...stuff just happens once one has seen 3 score and 14 trips around the sun.

So, returning the balls to the counter, I told Jim to not think I was mad at anybody, just that I wasn't going to try playing again until my eyes get fixed.

The ophthalmologist we go to is out of the office over the holidays...so will be seeing him about the lens replacement thing. Heck, I've worn glasses since the 4th grade.
20-400 or worse since then. Maybe he can give me 20-20 with no glasses?

So...has anybody here had lens replacement surgery? Is it the miracle claimed?

Sorry to hear that, but the fix supposedly has been easy & effective for a long time so jump in there & good luck. I'm in your general age range & was surprised to learn I have them developing in both eyes during my last trip to the optometrist. She said they would develop slowly. When you get up there in years, it seems like there is not much good news for any of your parts & pieces.

Yep on the parts and pieces...Vash, posting about coming retirement, was realistic. So many make plans for the same active lifestyle of their 30's and 40's...and at 65, one can still do those things. Alas, father time is cruel and he marches quickly.

Well, looking like I may be soon posting here on lens replacement. Hell, if it means I can kiss glasses goodbye, I'll feel like I've been released from prison.

Still, some nervousness of having eyes cut on remains...

I wear progressive lens glasses, used to be really good at shooting pool, now can't focus in on the cue to make any shot. UGHHHHHHHHHHHH

Of course you are, but this is not "elective" surgery, Paul.

Not the same, but I put up with a severely arthritic hip (lots of sports and other injuries) for years longer than I should have because I hate the thought of hospitals.

Get is done, my friend.

MIL had both eyes done last summer, about 6 weeks apart.
She was very happy with the improvement.

Had cadillac surgery on right eye, went from 20/100 with glasses and cadillacs to 20/20 with glasses. Was 20/30 without glasses since college. Left eye seems to be hovering at 20/50 with glasses so doc is waiting on it.

A little different than just age. Stepped on a roofing nail (new) and got a MRSA infection. It affected my blood veins causing lots of problems including retinopathy. Retinopathy is where the blood vein walls get thinner, the veins swell and leak in your retina. The leaking causes new vein growth that covers the retina and makes vision wavey. The leaking also promotes cataract growth which is more noticeable than the retina swelling and hemorrhage. The eye I had the cataract surgery on is very clear now and only has some limited hemorrhaging ie floaters that are very annoying. Get shots in the eyes to toughen the veins and reduce the swelling/leaking. Started with monthly shots, now done to about every 4-6 months.

I have several friends who have the lens replacement, along with my father.

Utterly fantastic. Seriously. The difference between disappearing into the mist of your world and seeing everything in HD.

If it were me, I would schedule it for the first open day.

Paul - my understanding is the lens replacement is hugely successful. Potentially getting shed of glasses is a great bonus! Good luck!!!

Everyone I know that has had it done, have had the same comment ... "why did I wait so long"!

Recovery was very quick ... a couple of days!

My wife had it done. She had worn glasses all her life. Now only for real close up work. She loves being able to see with no contacts or glasses.

My dad wore glasses for 65 years and finally got lens implants due to cadillacs. 20/20 w/o glasses for the final 20 years of his life.

At the end of October, I had cataracts removed and lenses replaced in both eyes. They were done one week apart. I honestly had no idea regarding how bad my sight had degraded. After the first eye was done, things were much brighter and clearer. I should have had it done sooner.

The best is that I no longer need glasses.

When they removed the patch after the first procedure, she cried because she could see the second hand on the clock on the wall

If your optometrist is willing to make an unbiased/unvested recommendation, they are a great place to start your homework as they see different ophthalmologists' results every day.

The surgery itself is 95+% routine as cataract surgeons get lots of repetition but not all are created equal.
