Turning blue-chip collector cars into stocks.

Curious to hear all people’s takes on this: Rally Rd. - alternative asset investing made simple. Just as crazy as crypto but 100x cooler . It’s not if but rather how crazy

Not interested...the figures on value sound impressive, but they ignore the cost of storage, insurance, service and incidentals.

An investment service only offered through an iphone, with no fee disclosure, in an illiquid asset class, what could possibly go wrong?

In today's tech world, no cost to you services through applications on your personal device, YOU are the target for revenue stream directly / indirectly.

Creative idea, but if the car isn't in MY garage, what's the fun in that?

Sounds like a great idea for having a collection of toys that others pay for.

Yeah but what’s the fun in owning a car and not being able to drive it?

Oh, I'm sure they'd be driven. Just not by the suckers who paid for them.

If I invest, can I drive the cars?

Our cars are museum quality, for investment purposes only, so we treat them like art and only have them driven professionally for maintenance purposes. However, we plan to expand our offering to allow you to visit the collection and participate in unique driving experiences with similar cars starting in 2018. We are also launching a 24-hour live video feed from our state-of-the-art storage facility, so you can keep tabs on your investments and share with friends.

Which I suppose is to say, if you invest, we will drive the cars. Carefully of course. Nice way for someone else to fund your car collection.

Basically the same concept as Mortgage Backed Securities applied to cars instead of houses. Also has many of the same risks (though not 100% the same).

Bowie did something similar with his catalog.

How about the penny stock version? Free investment advice from an id10t... worth what you pay for it.

Anyway, the advice. Visit the car dealers and the show rooms. Ask for all the literature. Lie and say you have no computer or internet access, but you really want one of the new Mustangs, Chargers, Camaro, Lamborghini, Porsches, whatever.

Gather all the sales literature you can - it is free or close to it today.

But a 1960s vintage 356 color choice booklet or option book is worth a few hundred bucks today...

Won't cost you anything but a little time and minimal storage space. Gather it up, perhaps with some of the current car mags reviewing the car/model you have the papers for, seal it up, and store it for 40+ years.

Back in the late 70's I just happened to be in SF on a trip with my parents and liberated a good armload of literature from the Porsche dealership, including stuff on the 930 - no idea where all that stuff is now.

I'd rather "invest" in a $2.00 powerball ticket. At least then I can fantasize for a spell.

We have a client with a great collection. He bought them because he liked him and wanted to drive them, not purely as an investment. He got lucky with his timing. We prepped 5 of them for sale last year. He netted over 500K on the sale of just those 5. He has a few more that will show similar returns if he decides to sell. We have another client that can make 350-400 off just 2 of his cars... But these stories are few and far between.

Cheers
