iPhone replacement cable

Are any of the non Apple replacement cables worth buying? I saw one advertised that said it speeds battery recharge and shuts off at full charge. Can't remember the company. Just wondering??

He's talking about both.

Not all cables are the same, some will charge faster than others, or put another way, cheap cables can slow down charging. Gauge and length affect this.

I believe the cable he is talking about can "turn itself off" once full charge is detected.

For 3rd party cables I buy wire wrapped as I typically travel with them.

For charger I use an Anker multiport.

I've seen some fabric wrapped. Need a new one and don't want to buy troubles.

Anker has their powerline 2 range of lightning cables (most iPhones use lightning connectors) and the powerline 2 range has a lifetime warranty. They definitely seem better made than the OEM Apple stuff.

I bought a five foot long wrapped cable at Staples - Name on the plug is "Wireless Gear".

I travel a lot and wanted the extra length for hotels, etc.

Lots of it out there!

I'm one of those rare ducks whose original Apple cables seem to last, not fray or otherwise fail before their time.

But I will say, ain't nothing special about the Apple cable, after all, he is looking to replace it, because it's fubar. Right?

And better quality 3rd party replacements can be found anywhere at 1/2 -1/3 the cost.

Same here, we still have our original cables (dating back to iPhone5), but I hear from other people that they are failing sometimes.

That was my refrain until Anker started making cables. The Anker cables are at least as good, if not actually better than the Apple cables and 25%-50% of the cost of the apple cables.

I haven't had any Apple cables fray, but I have had another issue. Apparently, if a baby or toddler sucks on the cable end, it kills either the power or the ground pin and the cable stops working.

I must be hard on cables because we have gone through many.

Lots of idevices at home, office, car, backpacks, etc = lots of cables.

In general most only last a year at most - including apple products.

I have not purchased a brand yet - mostly from Amazon - that has been long lasting.

They are cheap. Buy a handful and throw them out when they die.

I think a factor in how long they last depends on if you use the phone while plugged in or not. Some folks who told me their cables never break, rarely use the phone while plugged in.

As above, Anker PowerLine+ II is SIGNIFICANTLY superior to OEM, or anything else for that matter. I don't know if there is a MIL spec for these, but it would probably kill it...

Yeah, phone and ipad mostly either unplugged in use or plugged in sitting and charging. I may occasionally have phone ipad on desk plugged in and use it for email, chat, game, but that never involves pulling the cord tight. If I need to get it extended that far, I'll just unplug it. Fortunately, the fact that there's a battery built right into the device allows me to use it in a cordless fashion.
