My old car, I think
I'm pretty sure I owned this car back in 1985-87. How many fireball red (what the painter said it was) with mag wheels and Webers 240Zs can there be ? Have to go see it and see if there is a flaw in the roof paint where a twig landed on it. If it was my car I think I'll buy it.

That would be awesome to get back a car from your youth. I wonder sometimes what happened to a couple of mine.

Hope you get it back. The price looks reasonable considering what I've seen a lot of 240s sell for recently.
Had a 260Z. Simple cars that are reliable and fun. I'd like to get another Z someday.

This one sold local to me. They took the mirrors off @ buyers request. They have several that are going to restore. I'll take a pic of their bone yard...

You just have to go look at the one near you. If nothing else, to see if it's your old one.
In a strange way, I'm a bit jealous. I can't think of a car I had that I'd want back. Fond memories with a few of them, but I believe T. Wolfe was right, you can't go home again.

Wow, cool car and cool if it's yours. Definitely go get it. I'm a bit jealous.

I've had probably 30 different Datsun Zs, actively drove about 5 of them for many years, and parted out about 20 of the rustier ones. The one car I wish I could have kept was a low VIN # 71 240Z that was in excellent shape (painted dark blue), that I had later 280ZXT turbo wheels on. I loved that car, and would buy another one in a heartbeat.
The Indy mechanic I use exclusively for all my cars used to have an import shop. He would make regular runs to California for different races he was competing in (Datsun 2000 roadster race car), and would bring back clean, rust free 240Zs to have for buildups. After getting flooded out several times in his former location, he now has all of these nice rebuildable cars in his barn at his home. At some point, when I can gather up some scratch, I need a new project car before he retires completely. |

Mine Z was a '72 in pumpkin orange. Bought it in '80 when I was a Freshman at Ga Tech. Sold it around 88 for $1600 to fund the purchase of a brand spanken-new IBM PC clone - whopping 12Mhz processor and 512k of ram. Dual floppy drives!
![]() And what's going on with the orange one on BAT - the rear hatch is proud of the roofline and rear quarters..... ![]()

Slotted aluminum wheels with fake knock off wheel centers still look great on Zcars.

Left a message. Hoping he still has it.
On being fast, my car had dual Webers and headers and was very fast but what made it special was it so light and tossable and communicative. You should kick out the rear end going too hot into a corner, let off the gas, point the steering wheel where you wanted to go and punch it and it would just go. Had many 240s when I was 16-19, my red one was the best by far. It had this amazing "afterburner" smell when your foot was too the floor and then you let up, a heady aroma would fill the cabin. Not so much that it bothered you and it wasn't exactly the smell of gas. It was the smell of speed.
