Latest Grand Tour Audi vs. Lancia piece

Brilliant piece of automotive television. There very well could be but I don't know about it, but why isn't there a show that does two or three of these stories per 1 hour episode per week. Fascinating back story, vintage footage, driver interviews, history and the cars...the cars. What a great piece this was.

It was on the Grand tour!

Hopefully they do more pieces like that, I really enjoyed that.

I told my wife that it was the best piece of the grand tour they've ever done in my opinion, great story telling, videography, anecdotes... superb

Keep it going!

I was spectating on the Monte for that one, as a young teen. Pre-digital, I have no idea where the pics are (so it didn't happen by forum rules);-)

I remember not feeling my toes mostly, and the incredibly long walk to the spot we picked, and the italians and french taunting each other (but only until the Gendarmes showed up then it was everyone taunting the cops)... The 037 has got to be one of the prettiest rally cars ever made, and those Martini colors... good times !

Ditto on the above, great piece.. I wish they'd dump the celebrity face-off for another "film" of that caliber, or maybe more conversation... I saw the Delta in Corsica too, my other favorite Lancia (much nicer weather too).

I fast forward through celebrity face off, I find it even more dull than the Top Gear interviews.

Clarkston plays it up as a David v Goliath battle In reality, the roles should be reversed - it was a lightweight purpose-built race car (the 037) vs a production-based race car. And in that year, the Audi was very close to the production car. Audi, to their detriment, stuck with the quattro layout until the bitter end of Gruppe B. Yes, even the wild S1 E2 retained the ridiculous engine position overhanging the front axle. Everybody else had purpose-built race cars with no relation to their street cars.
