Product Registration.

here goes my old man rant:

i just bought a Ridgid Jigsaw. it claimed right there on the box, "lifetime warranty!" in order to get that kinda coverage, i must fill register the product.

wtf? is this just a way to generate a list of some sort? i get the name and SN of the tool..but what about all the other crap? why do they need my ph# and address? hell, i had to register for an account!!

same song and dance for my new rifle.

i am prepared to "unsubscribe" to the onslaught of emails. bring it!

Well typically a warranty period starts from date of sale.

But to answer your questions, yes, to generate a lead list.

As far as Lifetime Warranty, don't assume that does not mean the Warranty is only good for the Lifetime of the warranty which could be anywhere from a day to........

Get a throw away gmail address and google voice number for that crap.

May I suggest you go return the Ridgid jig saw and go buy a Bosch. I know its more money, ut that Bosch is the gold standard. It sill cut super straight, of course, that depends on the operator.

My guys have bought Ridgid power tools from HD. When the tool burned out within the first couple months, they told him to go pound sand and call and Ridgid and deal with them. Who the hell register their power tools. Without it, they wouldn't do anything for him / us. We don't buy them anymore.

I believe registration is needed as the warranty is only to the original purchaser. Disclaimer: I own a few Ridgid portable (battery) power tools. The Ridgid warranty INCLUDES batteries - I don't believe any other tool mfr offers that. Oh - my jigsaw is corded, and has BOSCH on the side

Exactly. You know, there might actually be a business in following around contractors who don't bother registering their tools and taking their broken ones of their hands. Then register and return them for replacements then sell those replacements for $0.70 on the $1.00
