I have a college friend who went back to get her PhD. When she went to IT to (re)activate her school email account they just used her original email address, from when she was an undergrad. The school uses the 3 initials of your name, followed by a number (in numerical order). She was "hek1@...." The IT guy was shocked, as he had never seen such a low number before.

It wasn't backhanded - it was just his way of saying, "not bad for an old guy"

still using aol, but i also have gmail....who care's if it was backhanded. Doesn't sound like it was. But if it was, my thoughts on backhanded comments are that they are usually coming from a negative place in the lives of the people making the comment. I wouldn't sweat it.

Everytime I see a reference to AOL and something being current, I always think, "WTF?"

It's amazing that it's still around. I'd love to know how/why and where are they getting money.

I think I gave them a shot with the free week or free month of Internet about 19 years ago. They didn't cut the mustard, but I'm pretty sure that the company that I did go with (Netcom) is probably gone. (I just did a search, apparently Netcom got bought out by Earthlink, and there are still folks out there with someone@ix.netcom.com email accounts.) I remember Earthlink too, and had one of their free month accounts before Netcom.

No idea, but I can tell you that the number for Gumby's Pizza in Tampa that delivered to USF was 977-2000. You could get a large 2 topping pizza delivered for $4.99. And that was DAMN GOOD pizza!! I suspect a lot of it had to do with being broke and starving. Still, every Mon, the laundry room had a 2' tall stack of empty pizza boxes.

Before Gumby's came in, the main place that we ordered from was 2-4-U pizza. 2 small 1 topping pizzas delivered for... you guessed it, $4.99.

I still use dail-up, use a rotary cell phone and drive a 43 year old car. But then I am 63 which anyone younger than 20 makes me old as dirt. Now time to update my IOS.

One of my old buddy's house address in Jax is burned into my memory from 30 years ago. I'd have to look up the delivery #, but remember where they need to deliver it Cracked him up a couple of years back when I recited it....he hasn't lived there in a couple of decades.

Can't recall names and faces worth a damn though...
