Exactly my thoughts too, if it's as good mechanically as it looks, then that would be a gem to get!

My first car was an '88 4Runner 5 speed, 4 cylinder. Slower than hell but put it in 4wd low and it would crawl up a wall. Never a single issue, only oil changes and tires for 13 years.

If that truck spent its life around here you could fit what was left of it in a shoe box.

I'll tell you what will keep the price down (down, being a relative term...)
Non-SR5. Not an extended cab No opening rear window Not bucket seats. Those 4 inconsequential things will lower the price by a few thousand dollars. I had an 85 speced like that (but carburated), it was perfect. I didn't want the power windows or the rear jump seats or any of that crap, I wanted a 4x4. I would however sell those rims, and buy a set of 15x6 wagon wheels in white (sell for $200, buy new for $50).

I have a truck that looks a lot like that, a 92. I thought those only had 97 horsepower? It's slower than ****. It has a matching color Leer canopy and the bucket seats and console and instrument panel with a tach and full factory gauges from and SR5, not to mention a sliding rear window. (Plus, a T handle off of a hurst shifter! Custom!) Unfortunately, the paint isn't swell on it and the windshield has a crack on the passenger side. Mine has 31 inch Michelins, that thing looks like it's sitting on 33's!
Im definitely going to be watching this auction.

my friend bought the exact same truck in Blue. same condition.
this was in Mariposa CA. it was stunning. the guy that owned it was totally OCD. in his house everything was laid out perpendicular or parallel to each other. he paid $4000 for it. we immediately devalued it by $1000 that same weekend. mud puddles and dead animals in the back. the truck was tiny. my friend actually left it with his dad, who parked it outside. the paint faded and peeled that first summer out. there was no trail or mountain we felt we couldnt conquer with that thing locked down in 4lo. we were often sadly mistaken.

A friend has something very similar, but it drives like it's in 4WD low all the time.
It's rusting out like crazy now, too many Michigan winters. Problem wise I think it's worse than my S10, but the S-10 has been pretty good to me.

Later, I bought my father's '92 after he passed. With a factory 3.0 V6 and extended cab, it was much more enjoyable. Drove it 10 years and hauled a lot of house building materials over the mountain pass.

![]() Here's mine. Its a 1989 long bed with 151K miles. V6, a/c, power steering, 3 owners, dealer serviced, original window sticker, spray in bed liner, original paint, light hail damage. I have the original wheels, too. I'll be watching this auction to get an idea of its value. I've wondered if I could sell it and get a Tundra with the money without having to pay a big difference. |

First car I remember driving on a road, think it was an extended cab though. Cool trucks, seem way overbuilt compared to much of what I've dealt with since.

I had two 85 4 bangers like that. One was a simple truck like the one above, with a 22R engine. I rolled that one out in the Mojave desert. Bought another 85. This one was a SR5, fuel injected with the extra cab. That was stolen with all my tools inside the cab. This was taken from a university parking lot. Liability only so the thieves really screwed on that deal. Those truck will walk up a wall on low four. Not one single problem with those lil' trucks

I will join in as I have a love affair with this generation of Toyota trucks.
Here is my current recent lucky find. 1991 Ext Cab 4x4 3.0 auto. One owner before me garaged and all original paint with no rust. 119k Miles. ![]()

I purchased a 1988 long bed V6 new. Put 300k on it, still had original clutch when I sold it.

I bought an 1988 single cab standard bed 4x4 5 speed about 7 months ago.
My 22re performance motor should be here in about 2 months, there was a six month waiting period. My truck has 169k, all original except for aftermarket rims on 31x10.50, I have done ball joints, tie rod ends, new shocks, wheel bearings. I had the front diff, rear diff, transmission and transfer case all gone through. New brakes this week, and I am ready for some High Sierra adventures. Love this slow moving overbuilt Turd. Gotta get me some rims like the ones on Mikes truck tho !

Indeed! Though nothing surprises me with these old Toyota's anymore. I know where I will list mine very soon though!
