Paging pelican doctors

I have had an abdominal pain for two months now. NOTE I do have a SCI so my sensory input isn't completely normal.

I thought it was a gym injury and it may still be related to a vigorous ab routine. It is the lower right quadrant along the inguinal (sp?) joint but low, close to the groin. It is mostly a dull chronic ache that I can relate to movement and body position. Not a sharp pain but I am constantly aware that it is there. No change in urine or the other exit.

I have been examined for hernia, testicular disease and had a CT scan with contrast of the abdomen and pelvis, all negative. My last colonoscopy was April '17 and was clean.

Is there another imaging technique that I should have? All opinions are welcome and of course full indemnification applies.

Thanks all.

It’s not a true hernia. It’s a soft tissue injury.

I'm sure it does. I'm not an authority on it but offered it for consideration. Lumbar spine/disc issues may also be in play.

Gas? Any changes in diet related to the onset of pain? Increase/decrease in caffeine intake?

definitely not gas and no diet that I can connect.

I thought of referred pain but there is no other injury which is why I'm investigating other causes.

You said a "contrast" was done so is that the same as an upper and lower GI series where you drink the liquid lead or whatever it is and they take a bunch of x-rays? I had problems like that back in the early 80's and they did the upper and lower series and found I have some places where my intestines are too small and get tangled due to scar tissue when my appendix ruptured when I was in Vietnam. The acid that comes out causes troubles for many, many years. I remember the surgeon saying he had to "clean my intestines" and there was still some residual issues for years.

It sounds like it comes from muscle, tendons, connective tissue - not visceral as in intestine. Likely relatively superficial. With the constant motion of the hip joint it is difficult to heal. Perhaps an ultrasound may deliver som information as you can push and prod the tender area simultaneously and with a little luch pinpoint the pain region.

Alternatively the actual hip joint is causing the sensation. Like in arthrosis.

hmmm this may have potential. Since my spinal injury is lateral and affected the same side as the pain is on AND the hip muscles on this side of my body never fully recovered this pain could be related to the same cause of my irregular gait. Certainly worth examining.

Thanks youse guys!

yup, drank the barium and they IV'd some stuff while performing the scan.

Sorry to hear of your troubles while in Nam but thank you for serving!

Have you ruled out appendix?

About 30 years ago, my appendix burst and I was in the hospital for 10 days recovering. Prior to getting the appendix removed, I had a 2 month stomach ache which I was treating with Metamucil (not the right thing to do but it seemed to work). I had a constant feeling like my intestings were twisting around or moving. This was on my lower right side (when looking down).

One day, I was typing a school paper and sitting in the same position for a few hours. When I stood up, it felt like a sharp rock was inside me and the edges were poking me. I went to the emergency where they took blood and the doctor pushed all around my stomach. I almost threw the doctor across the room when he pushed in near my appendex - it was that painfull

The emergency doctor prescribed me some potent pain pills and sent me on my way.

The next day, I could barely get out of bed. I called my mom who took me to the regular doctor. The doctor examined me and called the hospital for my blood results. He told me that my blood results were not good and was extremely surprized that they released me. He said he did not know what the problem was but that surgury was needed to find out.

I was in surgery within a couple of hours and during the proceedure, the surgeon stated that my appendex was completely enclosed in puss and had about 20 holes in it. He stated I was very lucky that no toxins were released into my system and that the puss ball around my appendix is what protected me.

Obviously, I'm no doctor but I recommend not ruling out appendix.
