1 or 2 sink vanity?
As you may have seen in the tiling thread, I am thinking about a hallway bathroom remodel.
I have a long 1 sink vanity that I will replace. It is fairly long and I want to replace it with the same length, to avoid wall finish work. What should I install? A 1 sink or 2 sink vanity? What will be better to rent out and / or sell later? Is a 2 sink still fashionable or is it a brady bunch type of setup? Thanks! G |

This is how the layout looks like on the LH side of the room. The current vanity is 6 feet wide and 22 inch deep. There is more generous spacing towards the John in my layout. Thanks!

A quick look at 72" wide vanities - all that show are 2 sink. Two sinks need two faucets! Will I need to upgrade plumbing or can I redneck the connection off a single feed with adapters? G Last edited by aigel; 02-08-2018 at 09:10 PM.. |

George, I have always talked my clients out of a double sink in the bath unless its a OMG big bath. My reasoning behind it is that who the heck use the two sinks at once( I mean along with your spouse or your cheating girlfriends ?) Its always nice to have enough counter space to leave siht on there. If its that important that people need to perform teeth brushing ceremony together or wash their faces right next to each other, then have at it.
The water supply should not be an issue if you "Redneck" together. There's plenty of water from that 1/2" pipe since your faucet is rater at 1.6 GPM. The drain maybe an slightly issue but not really a big deal. My suggestion and wwe almost always do this is to install an electrical outlet in the back of the drawer. A blow dryer or elec. shaver can be plugged in there and throw it back into the drawer to eliminate having more crap on the counter. Clutter in the bath drives me nuts or clutter in general. |

Two. My wife's facial ka-ka doesn't screw up my sink and I shave and brush when I want.

If you are doing this with selling the house in mind, I would mount the 2 sink unit. If keeping it for my own personal use, I would only require 1 sink....I really don't want to be banging elbows with someone else while trying to shave, brush teeth, put contact lens in, or my bump into wife while putting her makeup on.

For a master bath, double is required in my opinion. Anywhere else, no.

Master bath, definitely. Otherwise maybe. Is the bathroom near multiple bedrooms so it could be shared? Is your layout conducive to someday selling to a family with kids? Our house has three bedrooms and our master upstairs, so it’s obvious in that case to have a double vanity in the bathroom as it will likely be shared.

Master or jack n Jill with the John and shower separated get a double.
I get the impression this is a half bath or powder room? No double. The other thing a double does is takes away storage, drawer space.

Assuming it's not attached to a "master suite" or near a "guest bedroom" where you could have couples staying, I'd go with a single sink. I guess it could be a "feature" if it's a home with 3-5 bedrooms and it's the bathroom that would be expected to be use by the rest of the bedrooms. If you had a large family with a couple of boys or a couple of girls, having the multiple sinks would be nice.

Really? If you're married, having double sinks in the master is usually a good thing and definitely a selling point these days.

I hadn't thoroughly read all of the text.
6' vanity, 3 bedroom. I agree, probably no need for a second sink.

I kind of figured there was some time that you spent as a single person coloring your opinion... I would leave a double sink in the master bathroom, because anybody with a long-term relationship with a female is bound to use it.
