LED Light Bars On Trucks? Should They Be Outlawed

Pet peeve those LED light bars on mostly lifted trucks that can light up a football stadium, turned on while driving on the highway or a regular street and blinding everyone!

Should they be outlawed?

I think similarly with all the ridiculous cheap Xenon \ LED headlight and foglight conversions..

They are.

TX codes permits auxillary lighting mounted to the front of a vehicle at least 16" from the ground but no higher than 42"

I have heard of some areas requiring LED light bars to be covered up while on the road. Uncovered for Offroad Use only.

I have a couple LED light bars mounted to our 4 wheelers and they are incredible.

I think we have more than enough laws on the books so no I do not agree . However aren't these types of lights considered " off road " ? I'm sure there are laws stating they are not to be used on the street either due to their brightness level or height in relationship to OEM headlights . You run them on the street and get caught with them on it should be a ticket with monetary fine .

What about those laser-pointer brake-lights on so many new cars?

Why those don't have a PWM dim at night, IDK? --ridiculously bright.

Frikken Cadillac Escalade brake lights.

I can not drive behind one of them.

I see spots for minutes afterwards.

They are so bad I actually look away from the vehicle to avoid the retina burn which is counter productive, it makes me consciously and intentionally avoid looking at something that's important.

Are they really causing any harm, or do they just annoy you? I find all modern headlights to be really bright .

As has already been mentioned, I guess it's a matter of actually enforcing current street laws.

They are blinding, so its dangerous and more than just an "annoyance"

Factory headlights are engineered, these aftermarket jobbies are done at home or at the local Joe-Bobs without any thought

Most states they are illegal to use on the street, maybe all states.

They are great off road though to light up large areas ahead of and to the side but they are far worse to oncoming drivers than someone just leaving their brights on.

On a side note, they are pretty tame compared to what my uncle had on his Toyota truck.

I see a ton of them mounted on trucks here.
I haven't seen any actually in use on the street.
I'm getting some for my 88 yota.

Some of us use those trucks for work. Ever pulled a calf in a field in the dark?

Totally agree. However, it's the chooches driving on the street (not working) with the lasers set to kill that annoy me! NOT NECESSARY!

Many of these light bars are also attached to pickups with the super-size 24" diameter diesel exhaust pipe sticking through the bed
