JD Power auto study

I have just been reading this report from 2014 to end of 2016, 3 years.
Dependability study from 33000 original drivers,.
The big one that surprised me was --Jeep at 28 out of 32,
and look at Mercedes,.and Cadillac, Ford, BMW
I missed Lexus at the top and, Landrover,
Smart
Ford
Dodge
at the bottom, photo would not fit, and Buick are doing fantastic,
They have sold thousands of jeep here in ausy, and i think owners will regret it.

What metric are those numbers representing? Penis length in mm?

sammyg2 02-24-2018 12:31 PM

the good cars are consistently near the top year after year, and the POS cars are always near the bottom.
I find it ironic that people keep ignoring the facts and buying the unreliable models year after year, and then deny that fact.

JD power study

You are dead right sammyg2, Same here in Australia,
i have a friend here in that he purchased a new grand cherokee, and the problems
and times hes been back to jeep is unbearable, not just one thing ,knock in the front
end, engine cuts out all the time, and other items, and the dealer can
not fix the problems. I thick its going to end up in court here.
Widebody 911, the report was for --problems per 100 vehicles,
and i still miss Sacramento alot, i know your area Carmichael very well, lived there 10 years.

I heard a comment on a discussion on the tube about advertising. The commentator mentioned the advertisement campaign for Jeep as an example how a good advertising campaign can compensate for a lousy product.

When I went to school a 93 was a B and 183 was a grade the weird guy with no friends got. Is this new math?

I'm sure my BIL would agree with the placement of Jeep.
About four years ago, he bought a new one with the optional hard top for winter use.
After three years the radiator let go. Hard usage? Nope.He had it "off road" exactly once, on a gravel woods road.
I never understood why they bought it in the first place.
A few months ago, he traded it for a Kia.

I'm really leaning towards a Hyundai or Kia for my next car. Some dealerships are extending the powertrain warranty to 20 year/200,000 miles. I know its a marketing gimmick, but there has to be some reliability truth to it since they could lose their shirts. The G80/90 sure seem like a ton of car/features for a lot less money than the Europeans.

I have a couple co-workers who have various Korean models and they all say they barely have to do anything except oil changes and tires.

Scrub the battery terminals. So many Dodges have this issue. I bet it's a 3.7 six cylinder.

All my Jeep owning friends joke that it stands for

Just
Empty
Every
Pocket

But they still love them and go mudding and Rick crawling every chance they get

How does Rick feel about that?

2016 Subaru Wrx, driven till 12.3K, then STI, 2.8K to 32K today- bringing the total driven miles 42K. Not one damn issue, the WRX stumbled, ONCE. Never a CEL, let alone a failure.

Given how most of Europe now makes underpowered boring Eco-friendly transportation appliances that self-destruct thanks to bio degradability the future is Japanese.

Same here, 2016 Subaru Crosstrek, oil changes every 6K. That's it. Not one single issue.

Ha!

Most cars are more reliable than my computers substituting spell checker

stevej37 02-26-2018 06:03 AM

I'm surprised they had Chevy and Buick ahead of Honda.

I remember back in the early 80's one of my brothers gradumacated from college and got a prestigious job.
So he went out bought and bought a new jaguar.

He stopped by to show me his new purchase and I gave him a hard time about how bad of a reliability reputation jags had.
He said " that was the OLD jag, the news ones are much better!"
I remember pointing out something that had fallen off the car on his way from the dealer.

by the time that vehicle his 60,000 miles he donated it to a charity as it had already cost him a fortune in repairs and the transmission was dead which would cost another $5k.

I myself wonder why that list isn’t in alphabetical order?

( when I was a little kid watching the Indy 500 on tv I also wondered why the cars were not running in numerical sequence though, so don’t pay any attention to my thoughts ):D

LakeCleElum 02-26-2018 08:50 PM

So, Ford didn't even make the list???

pwd72s 02-26-2018 10:38 PM

Keep in mind that JD Power is an "initial quality" survey. I got a survey from them shortly (within weeks..under a month) after I bought my '09 Mustang new. I replied, but have heard zilch from them since. So, I suspect this is NOT a long term use survey.
