What is this?

Today I was driving up the mountain at about 55mph. Laying in the middle of the road was what looked like a quaint stick made adirondack stool of some sort.

I swerved around it and kept driving, but, curiosity got the best of me, so I went back and got it.

As I got closer, I noticed it wasn't some arts and crafts wooden stool- it was a heavy duty stand of some sort. It weighs about 40-50 lbs, and would have DESTROYED the front end of a car had someone hit it.

I daringly stepped out in traffic to retrieve it. "You're welcome" I laughingly yelled at passerby cars in a Bill Murray voice as I got it.

So, what is it? There are three tubes, one can of what looks like flux, and a large hook.
The top section has a tightening bolt to secure something into it.

My original thought was a fishing stool, but, now I'm thinking welding stand of some sort?

Thoughts?

Looks like something a welder would use that fell off the truck.

KFC911 02-27-2018 03:40 AM

Not enough rod holders and too close together to be a proper fishin' stool....and HEAVY ;)

Stand for a small forge?

URY914 02-27-2018 04:10 AM

The pipes and hook is for holding tools.
Something to do with blacksmiths?
Shoeing horses?

Something fits in the top and the t-handle holds it in place.

It is a part that fell off a UFO. The Aliens will be looking for it. Maybe they will give you a reward?

Homemade anvil stand?

That's it.

Wonder who ran over the anvil?

Reiver 02-27-2018 08:54 AM

Farrier stand for hot shoeing a horse...locks a small anvil in place...propane forge nearby.

By any chance, did the OP see any coyotes in the vicinity? Maybe at the bottom of a nearby cliff?

McLovin 02-27-2018 09:00 AM

Yep, definitely an Acme anvil stand.

LEAKYSEALS951 02-27-2018 09:47 AM

The ACME anvil reminds me of this:

Go back and look for the anvil....those babies are bringing really good money these days with that TV show "Forged in Fire" going strong. I'm not looking for an anvil, just looking at them for $400-$900 each.

So is a dollar a pound a good deal?

A dollar a pound is a very good deal for a good quality anvil that hasn't been welded and is in decent shape. Take a hammer with you if you are looking at used and hit it. It should ring when struck.

I picked a good quality 125# anvil that was made in England about 10 years ago for around $80. Cannot remember the manufacturer. Except for some surface rust is is in new condition.

I think the pot on the stand isn't flux but more than likely wax.

svandamme 02-28-2018 04:50 AM

to shoe a horse?

greglepore 02-28-2018 05:00 AM

Given where you live, its almost certainly a stand that a farrier would use for his tools/anvil. Anvil probably down the road a piece :)

It's the framework for a nukular disgronificator.

KFC911 02-28-2018 05:36 AM

It's a thing-a-ma-jig....it's even got holders for yer doohickeys ;)

cabmandone 02-28-2018 06:34 AM

That thing had to make some kind of racket when it exited the vehicle carrying it!

LEAKYSEALS951 02-28-2018 07:48 AM

I went and scoured the area looking for an anvil at large.
None found.
I did see what looked like an area several yards below the original find, where it looked like a trailer dropped a wheel off the side of the road and I could see that upsetting the contents of whatever was on the trailer.

It doesn't surprise me the heavier anvil didn't fall off- but it was worth a shot.

What I didn't expect were the secret service agents who swarmed my house last night and took it. They informed me, what I have found was a weather balloon of some sort. Also noticed the name Mac Brazel ground into the side of the stand, all before they had me stare into some red light, and suddenly I awoke not knowing where I was.

They asked if I had shared the previous information with anyone. I said no. I think you guys are safe. They can't track computer stuff, can they?

Post some "Found" flyers. You'll make someone very happy if they see one.
