New Iphone help...transferring #s, etc.

I'm lazy....so I come here for help ;). I'm not an Iphone person, but got one for my mom a few years ago (5s), that's on it's last legs....just ordered her a new one. No connections to the Apple cloud except for facetime (yuk). Is there gonna be a way to easily transfer her phone lists, pics, etc. over to the new phone? Methinks I know the answer...please tell me I'm wrong and make my day :). Thanks!

If you backup the old phone on iTunes, you can download the backup onto the new one. Its what I did going from a 5 to an 8.

Other than making me a boatload of $ over the years...I think Apple sux. There...I feel better now :)

Nope...not an option I would use...but thanks!

Either iTunes or iCloud are the usual ways but there are some 3rd party apps that will let you transfer data from one phone to the next using your computer for temp storage.

Thanks, but not an option either...

Having spent a career as an IT heavyweight and networking guru...I now travel the information dirt road as a stubborn ol' mule :). And I like it that way...

Now get off my lawn! ....unless you can help...then I'll buy ya a lawn chair ;)

If you're not willing to use Icloud or Itunes or a few 3rd party apps, your options are pretty limited. Get your fingers ready for a workout would be my advice.

Cracking my knuckles already ;)

Why the aversion to Icloud or Itunes? I'm come from the world of android but my daughter had an Iphone (before I convinced her to switch) and my parents both have Iphones. Itunes or Icloud work really well for backup and transfer.

BTW, I think most phones can transfer contacts by bluetooth. You might want to do a search.

Sounds like every conversation with my wife.

Honey, how do I do this?

Go here and do this

I don’t want to do that, I want to do it another way

Ok, but that’s the way it’s done, your other way won’t work

But I don’t like your way, I wanna do it my way but don’t know what to do

Do you want it to work?

Yes

Then do it my way

I don’t like that way, I’m doing it my way

Fine

Honey....

Yes dear

I did it my way and it’s not working

Sigh

KFC911 03-05-2018 05:00 AM

Sigh ;)

Thanks all! I knew what the answer was without even asking here, but appreciate the responses anyways...

There is an free app called iMove that runs on a PC to transfer everything from old iPhone to new one if you are trying to stay away from the Apple universe.

But since you state you are lazy and iCloud is free just backup to iCloud, then when you get the new device, restore from iCloud. And go on.

The easiest way if an Apple store is close, just take the phones to a "genius" and have them do it for you.

I thankfully don't know of any way to just have the old and new phones talk to each other and move everything. I imaging the hackers would have a hayday with that feature if were available.

Bluetooth is not directional.

Find no instructions for pointing iPhones at each other to copy data.

There is an app called bump where you can send a single file an contact. But it is not to copy all the data and settings from one phone to another.

I always have the shop where I buy the iphone transfer the contact list over to the new phone.

No itunes or icloud for me.

My email/calendar/contacts/notes sync with my gmail account.(which is actually my own domain, serviced by google) Don't need to use itunes.

However, itunes is simpler and easier. And will sync/backup apps, pics and text messages. I don't understand the reluctance.
