I use to until this happened...
One day I was walking into a restaurant, as I walked toward the front door a homeless guy asked me for a dollar 'so he could buy something to eat'. I pulled out my wallet, gave him a buck. As I continued to walk toward the front door of the restaurant, I thought, why not invite the guy in and buy him a meal. As I turned around to invite him in he was wrapping the dollar I gave him around a huge wad of bills. Could have been all ones or could have been a mix of ones, fives, tens, etc. From that day forward I don't hand out free money. I'll buy a guy something to eat, but no free money.

I once was asked for money in a parking lot at the local walmart and instead gave the man a gallon of milk, he seemed to not like my gift so I also gave him bread.
