1981 classics: Van Halen Fair Warning Rush Moving Pictures Journey Escape Ozzy Diary of a Madman Police Ghost in the Machine ...and plenty more. 1981 alone has given me a lifetime of guitar lessons. |
I like all kinds of music (including some jazz). My tastes change and sometimes I will listen to the same genre and then get totally sick of it and change to a new theme.
With me, I have learned to like certain music after seeing a movie. I never liked the Doors until I saw the movie. I was not a big fan of James Brown until I saw the movie. I became a huge fan of Ray Charles after seeing Ray. I never ever liked Bob Dylan until I saw the documentary "I'm Not There". I think that a lot of music sticks with us because it triggers memories, and some of the music in these movies (that I really liked) now triggers a fond memory. |
This is a Jazz genre
Late '60s poli jazz... I.E political... this tune is fantastic... until the handoff and the poli comes... but it was way ahead of my time... Smooth Jazz is easy: Rippingtons, Bela Fleck and the Flectones.
Chick Corea is a little more out there. Here's my fav of Bela and Chick (start about 30 seconds in): <iframe width="640" height="360" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/AqHwC6NwILc" frameborder="0" allow="autoplay; encrypted-media" allowfullscreen></iframe> really "out there" jazz is like listening to a jam band-its not about a tune but creating the mood. Sometimes I can listen to jazz like that. Other times not so much. Now, Grateful Dead jams? No problem. |
