BMW powered Corvette Awesomeness

The 24 Hours of Lemons never ceases to amaze me with the creativity of the teams. Low Road Racing took a Corvette C3 and transplanted a M50B25 from a E34 inside.... then finished the car with the Warsteiner livery!

Check it out here!

A lot of it is time over money, and if they enjoy the time then they just build a new fun thing.

You get to see all kinds of cool stuff in the 24 Hours of Lemons! This one is one of my favorites still!

It's definitely a lot of time, but a great experience! Spent many weekends with my friends testing and getting our speed racer theme'd Miata ready, but it was lots of fun! Believe we're doing Buttonwillow in September this year with two cars this time... we'll see!

I'm sure that was under $500. LOL.

I'm on a team this year, my first time doing it, we're building a 2004 Maxima. Working on the roll cage now.

no..i think someone can walk up and buy it if the awesomeness is too great.

it's the thing that forces builders to maintain a tiny budget.

There are two different series, CHUMP car and Lemons.

Lemons has the people's curse, a car far out in the lead will likely get crushed.

CHUMP car is the one with buy out rules.

The SCCA production classes used to have buy out rules for MSRP, not sure they still do.

The people's curse is long dead and has been for about a decade, for better or worse.

https://blog.caranddriver.com/this-history-of-the-peoples-curse-or-why-lemons-doesnt-destroy-cars-with-excavators-anymore/

The buy out provision exists still, but it is never used. Only a the organizers can buy out a car, and honestly, they all have too many garbage hoopties as is. Only two cars car every got bought out; one because it had no labor in it, and was totally worth more than five hundred dollars (a nice Mercedes couple with all of the power) and another because THEY WOULD NOT STOP GETTING BLACK FLAGS.

At the last Houston race, there was a 5.3L LS Swapped E36, no curse, no buyout, just a lot of penalty laps and laughing when it blew up after three laps.

In short, build a glorious piece of garbage and be confident that the only bad thing that will happen to is a bunch of red-misty-eyed Miata and Honda drivers will run into it...because ya know...THEY HAD THE LINE.
