You should also try to incorporate good isometric tension (push/pull) and have your support hand do the lion's share of the "clamping force" for a more relaxed trigger finger on your strong hand.

So a year later I decided to try this. Have done maybe a dozen or so IDPA matches and really enjoy it. I’m usually finishing somewhere just above the bottom third at casual weekly matches. Not impressive but worlds better than I would’ve been in the past. And the best part is I’ve gotten very comfortable with my pistols.

So I shot a match recently that had two poppers pretty far away and I missed like 3 times on each. Very frustrating. I was missing to the left. I did poorly the entire way through but the poppers had never been an issue for me since you’ve got lots of vertical area to hit. This caused me to look for tweaks to my grip.

Best I can tell this aspect of the grip is kind of a push/pull thing. I see lots of experts saying you need a loose trigger finger and Erics comment is how you do it.

Feels a bit weird at first and took a few rounds to get a level of comfort with it. However I am now able to put an 8 round mag on the target at 7 yards and the end result is all rounds touching. Prior to this I’ve been putting them in maybe a 4 inch zone slow firing.

This is a major step forward for me. I’m a bit slower with this tweak on my technique but I think that can be fixed with good ol fashioned time at the range. It is easier to get this grip wrong and miss entirely when adding a timer as it’s more complex than using the strong hand for 80% of the gripping force. But it truly does loosen the trigger finger which makes real differences down range.

TL,DR: C clamp grip still the key but utilizing more weak hand, more ‘push/pull’ ups accuracy a fair bit. Will be focusing on this going forward.

Somewhat unrelated—-I’ve acquired two more Sigs and this has become my favorite by far. 225-A1.

I believe we all make mistakes but I will not validate your poor choices and/or perversions and subsidize the results your actions.

My trigger finger is slightly deformed (birth) with a slight hook at the forward joint that doesn't work right....it works

So I went to youtube and watched a lot of instructional videos. Found one comment that I though 'hmm, I probably am not doing that so i'll have to try it'.

Snuck out today for an hour and burned through about 200 rounds trying this new technique.

AHA! This **** works! Yes it's almost like cheating with the RX sight but poor grip and trigger control will still make you look bad.

Here's what the trick was: Strong hand grips like a C clamp front and back, not like a hose clamp. made all the difference in the world.

The goal is to eventually show up at a local IDPA match and not make a complete fool of myself. Today was a huge step in that direction. Now that I've figured out the grip more or less I'm able to focus on trigger pull. It's also a lot more fun doing actual drills at the range (draw and fire for example) with the goal of competing as opposed to just shooting at paper.

I shall update the group as my career goal of being not quite the worst handgun shooter on the east coast progresses.
Dude - its S&W all the way. Laser sights, coworkers, cops, no probs.

Cheers, Gaz
