What is up with new cars with black roofs?

Sure it looks cool (no pun intended) but if you are in the sunny south of the good old USofA and you park outside in the middle the day in summertime are you not going to return to an oven?

Not that it's any better but many of those black roofs are glass moon roofs which can be even worse than a painted black panel (think greenhouse effect). But it's all about looks nowadays even if it ain't practical. Kind of like all the new subdivisions around here with their McMansions clad in black (or charcoal because it's 'cooler'...) asphalt shingles.

You can put window tinting in moonroofs that block Infared.

My i3 has a black carbon fiber roof, I hate it. In Florida it is just a big heat sink.

I want to go have it wrapped in white vinyl or at the very least in the same Bonze / silver color as the car or as close as they can get.

You mean like this? Looks good with a contrasting color like white.

No fair! You are in Canada! Besides pretty sure that roof comes off

Hmmm... interesting idea on the wrap, I like the idea of a contrasting color for the roof, white would be nice. Black just doesn't seem practical if (like me) you live somewhere sunny and warm most of the year. I would even question it the A/C could keep up on +90 degree day.

That is the way it came Scott. Power retractable hardtop. No wrap. Gets hot here in summer namely 80F plus but the air conditioning can handle it. I would not buy all black though. We rented a Corolla in Palm Springs in winter and it was all black. I don't understand an all black car in Palm Springs.
