Over the years here are the things we did. We had vinyl siding with 2 inches of insulation so our heater nearly never comes on. Got solar two years ago so except for a couple winter months we are in the black. Stove, dryer and tankless water heater are all gas. Have my garage 48 inch pairs of fluorescent lights 8 total zoned so they can be turned off in pairs in the area I am not using. Have my AMD 8 core gaming PC shut off after 10 minutes of no use (cursor movement). Since we sit on a hill in view of the Pacific ocean we almost never have to use or A/C. Replaced all our windows with dual pained gas filled ones and the big one in the bedroom can pull both sliding windows for better air flow. I use a 48 inch flat screen monitor on the PC and time it to shut off when the PC shuts off. Do the same on our wireless router and HP printer/scanner.
Finally since my wife and I both use C-Pap we gat a reduced rate from the electric company. |

Gas is now $20 in summer and $50 winter. Before turning the hot water and temp down it was $35 and $90.
My electric bill summary always says there are users using 20% else than me. And that percentage did NOT change after I lowered my usage. I think it is bogus. My next door neighbor uses less electricity. He turns everything off, everything. Example: He has computer, modem, wifi. printer, etc all on power strips. One turns power strip on to use computer, and only turns modem/wifi on to access internet. Otherwise power strips are completely shut off. Does the same thing with his cable tv.
