The original post is of a GT3, I posted a black GT2.

Isn't the GT2 the "big dog" meant for the track?

Measurables are a good place to start with the most powerful street-legal Porsche 911 ever. GT2 RS’s 3.8-liter twin-turbo flat-six is an evolution of the current 911 Turbo S motor I sampled on the drive home from Pebble Beach last year. Thanks primarily to much larger turbos delivering significantly more boost, in GT2 RS form the engine develops an additional 120 horsepower, for a total of 700. That’s roughly equal to the power of the most radical 911 racecars of all time, the 935s of the late 1970s and ‘80s, which at their peak made a touch more than 700 hp, but those engines were good for 24 hours and a few minutes extra for a victory lap. GT2 RS is completely road legal, having passed the sniff test with the Feds. It's created by the Porsche toy shop under the Motorsports banner. We live in a Golden Age.

GT3 RS and GT2 RS are both big dogs meant for the track. Do you want naturally aspirated or forced induction. That's the main difference. The GTx RS is the pinnacle of the 2 lines for the track, until you get into RSRs, I believe.

Some of you would prefer the "touring package"

I love the look. It's like a piece of art. A lot to look at and absorb.

They are everywhere here. Saw a brand new GT3RS in bright metallic purple yesterday, I cringed a little.

I could be wrong, but I suspect every vent and scoop on that car serves a purpose, especially, if you buy it and run it hard on the track which is what it was designed and built for.

Clearly, it would be a much better car if it was scoopless and the brakes and engine overheated after a couple of laps and it was a little scary in a high speed sweeper because it didn't have downforce.

You are correct.

However, all the wild color combo's of the RS still render it a clown car to many.

Here's a 2007.

Gotta love charging for unpainted parts like hood and mirrors.

Why??? Do they not paint these carbon fiber bits. UV's give carbon fiber death. I know there is a form of sun protection clear coat but since when has that worked.

I'm pretty sure you can order one in a Tamed down look if you order from new.

I think UV protection these days is pretty good.

Good enough if the car is not parked in the sun all day and you don't mind doing a repaint in the future.

Absolutely. Pal has a 2008. White with black letters and black accents. Perfectly acceptable except for the fact it's a GT3 RS which is outrageous (favorably) in it's look even in primer gray.

His wife was the one saying Clown Car in the way back.

A930Rocket 03-30-2018 07:48 PM

I like it and the color.

I could live without the front fender vents in the back.

Since I can’t afford it, it’s a moot point.

Do you like the skittle colored Porsches in the 60 and 70s?

I'm just glad people are buying these in actual colors as opposed to the usual gray, white, silver and black that EVERY car comes in.

If I've got a $200k car, I can hopefully afford a garage.

"Porsche is also offering forged magnesium wheels as an additional $13,000 option."

Gold diggers! Mustang 350GTR, ready for the track, sports carbon fiber wheels.

Not that I'd want either car for my weekly slog over a crowded I-5 for my jaunt to my favorite pool hall.

You need to garage anything you care about around here, Bill. Either that or have some parking spot that's in the shade all day and not under a tree full of schit birds. The sun in this part of the country will destroy anything. Dogs get skin cancer in the American Southwest.

speeder 03-31-2018 11:43 AM

I like the 2007 RS, the new one not so much. A little outrageous goes a long way.

Bill Douglas 03-31-2018 11:46 AM

My point if If I owned that car I'd drive it as much as possible, like I do the SC, so it would spend all day at the beach. Be used for taking the dogs to the mountains, really use it - not save it for the next person. And in doing this it would see a lot of sun. The SC got driven to work each day and sat in the parking lot sun all day.

That's fine but then it and you will be fried like a potato chip. I'm not sure what the discussion is; does your old 911SC not get fried in the sun?

Use it/drive it/park it in the broiling sun all day, everyday. But don't complain when it looks like it.
