DD+ brakes

Midsized sedan with maybe a HPDE or two to do.

Needs new pads. I have always run EBC on the bike but hear Hawk are good. I have the Napa ceramic on the truck for towing and I can actually haul butt on the backroads with it and have no issues with the brakes and they are easy to modulate with good feel. Dad can get the Evolution (Stoptech maybe) at wholesale.

Mostly a daily driver but gets driven hard now and then on the back roads and they have a HPDE coming up at Blackhawk farms I would like to attend and maybe one at Road America then switch to the sports car after getting instruction (no passenger roll bar on the roadster). Never had an issue with the OEM pads but I really like the ceramics on the truck. Don't need or want something that requires lots of heat to get them to work.

So, do I stay OEM or pay a little less for the "better" pads. If so, which? No, I don't like the cheap Raybestos units.

OEM is $90 and the EBC or Hawk are slightly less at $65-$80. No clue on the Evolution, but probably less. He could probably get the drilled and slotted rotors for the price of the OEM pads, but no dad, I don't need those rotors.

I've had Hawk HPS on several street cars and been happy, they seem to improve the feel and stopping power without an increase in noise or dust.

That's what I have been hearing and if they are better than OEM for less it sounds like a better deal than the stock stuff. I have to say the OEM have less initial bite, but then increase in bite with no additional pressure as they get a little heat.

The truck Napa pads have great initial bite and they remain the same without adjusting pressure. The Napa pads are the most expensive for the car so they are out of the running but they are a good comparison to what I want. I am sure the Hawk pads will perform as well or better.

On a side note, the OEM brakes on the Cobra transferred pad material in a semi liquid state onto the rotors coming down a mountain pass one day. I swore I would never have a failure like that again on any of my cars, hence my asking. Running downhill with rear brakes only was "interesting".

Not knowing the car makes a recommendation a little more of a challenge. But before I went to a true track pad (Performance Friction Compound 11) I was running Performace Friction Z compound on my M3. They held up well on the track, but obviously not as well as the PFC 11s I now run.
