78 Datsun 280z

Well I've been bitten by another bug....the Datsun bug lol I'll be taking a look at a 1978 Datsun 280z that's been owned by the same owner since new....all original, garaged kept, and by a women....even has the original selling dealers plate frame still attached comes with msrp and records back to day 1.

Hoping 15k brings her home!

To be honest I've never driven one lol, I'm hoping the drive seals the deal.

I had a 77 and would LOVE to have another.

back date the bumpers to the 240 look. like Porsche and the short hoods, they uglyed them up with the long bumpers.
great engines. I had over 200k on mine and would hit the rev limiter daily.

I just posted on the 240-280Z FB forum asking the best way to get a 280 down to 240 weight. Great enthusiast group same as 911. Your car looks too nice to fool around with but 280s are downright cheap compared to 240s. Bumper and tail light backdates, for me, are a must. Then pull off the injection for some Webers or Mikumis and you can start to get down to 2300-2400 lb.

Good luck with the purchase that is a nice looking car . I agree that the bumper backdate should be on the to do list .

I've owned 6 Datsun Zs (incl. a 1600 Roadster) over the past 20 years and still have one, they are truly fantastic cars. They are reliable, easy to work on, parts are readily available and the aftermarket offers some great parts for them.

The EFI on the 280Z is great too, the car could benefit from an extra 100hp as the chassis is so capable.

Hope it works out and you get it.

Between daily drivers (5), and parts cars that I parted out, I have had about 30 different Z cars over the years. One reccomendation is to put a later 79-83 ZX 5 speed in to replace the 4 speed, it bolts right up, and to use the 3.90 gears from the newer car......make it into a stock rocket.

Now that's a market that's really climbing for nice original cars. I love them.

If he changes the bumpers out will it still be a "nice original car"?

sure, its a 240 backdate
I would put this on my list if I sold the 930.

in fact, let me know if you don't buy it, first in line.

mine had a popping when you would accelerate.
I was just a kid at the time but figured out that changing the tension on the spring in the AFM fixed it. ran great after that.
I new I was changing the mixture but I still feel pretty good about figuring it out for a kid just out of hi school.

probably covered up an air leak, but it was a cheap fix.

I have a very nice `77 that just sits and that I'm considering parting with.

Somewhere south of 110K miles (can't remember exact number from where I sit), documented engine rebuild 6K miles ago, five speed, very nice repaint in a non-factory pearl white, and excellent interior.

I'm trying to figure out if I should sell and, if so, what to ask.

Any ideas?

Just tried to attach some pics but Pelican says the files are too large. I'll try to adjust the size later today in case anyone wants to see some shots of the car.
