New Boat!

We basically live at the lake in the summers, and decided that with three growing kids and a large extended family that it was time to upgrade. My neighbors had already asked for first dibs on our 2004 Monterey 23' bowrider when we decided to sell, so after knocking that out in February my casual boat search got very serious. I flew to Austin, TX to look at a Formula (crap), Richmond, VA to look at a Cobalt (crap), we drove to Lake of the Ozarks to look at a lot of crap at dealerships, looked at and called on dozens of boats nationwide, and then last week my wife found a nice one-owner 2009 Regal 2700 with only 115 hours on a random boat website. I received very few pictures from the not very internet savvy seller, but he sounded like a great guy and the price was worth taking a chance. Drove back to Lake of the Ozarks and ended up buying this little gem on Friday night. No trailer, but I found a 2012 trailer designed exactly for the Regal 2700 in matching colors being sold about one mile from our hotel, so I bought it on Saturday morning. It was meant to be. Love love love this thing, can't wait for summer!

The family will have alot of fun on that cruiser. We used to have boats that we enjoyed, then switched to campers which we like better.

Many of my childhood summers were spent at the Ozarks on the water. Love that area! The boat will give you and the kids many a good memories they will cherish for the rest of their lives!

Sorry to hear about Richmond - could have taken you to Rick's!

But, wow, that is a nice looking boat, Matt.

Congrats, Matt...she's a beauty. Got lucky on the trailer part too.

BTW, I always enjoy (and appreciate) your commentaries that lead up to your purchase decisions.

Inspiring!

Happy boating to you and yours!

Lots of fond memories of times on a lake when our daughter was young. Enjoy!

sometimes the best deals are from people who just aren't good at the interwebs!

Thanks guys! To answer a few questions, it has a Volvo Penta 5.7 GXi with 320 HP and a Duoprop drive. Impeller done late 2017, drive and engine oil just changed, and the seller had a full inspection including compression check done before selling. The boat weighs 5,800 lbs dry per the book, so with trailer and about 3/4 tank of gas on the boat I'm probably at about 8,000 lb. The truck is rated at 11,500 lb towing factory with the max tow package and I've done a few upgrades to bump up the power a bit more. I was a little concerned about how it would tow, but other than feeling the weight when going uphill it pulls just like my old 23' boat. The 5 hour trip home through mostly twisty hilly two lanes was very uneventful. The trailer already has disc brakes on both axles with a surge controller, I am going to add an electric controller so I don't have to sweat a steep slippery boat ramp. Tires are decent but I'm going to replace them just to be safe, as they have a 2011 date code.

This is boat #3, we started with an 18' 2004 Tahoe for two years, moved into a 2004 23' Monterey for three years, and now this Regal. We love it, kids love it, kids' friends love it. We also have two other families that boat with us, so that helps. People that make jokes about boat ownership are either buying the wrong boat, aren't using it enough, or have a crappy mechanic. I DIY everything and have found them very easy to own. We are very OCD about maintenance and upkeep, I've made money on each of my two boats that I have sold due to condition.

Drkshdw, we typically do at least one long weekend at the Ozarks each year, shooting for two this year. It's my absolute favorite place, and we plan to get a condo there at some point in the future. Unfortunately the 5 hour drive is too much for a day trip, but someday....

Looking for property there myself. Good people, beautiful scenery and the roads are perfect for Sunday cruises in a Porsche. Thankfully that whole area hasn't seen the booms other touristy places have so property is still cheap. Hope it stays that way for awhile.

If you are interested in a condo in the state park area (Park Place) let me know. The condo that we typically rent is going up for sale soon. Super nice upper floor unit with a loft, 3 br, 2.5 ba, big deck, lots of recent renovations, pretty easily sleeps 12. Really nice quiet area but still only about 15 min to Osage Beach. It is off the main channel so nice for smaller boats or watersports. I'm really bummed that he's selling and we aren't in the position to buy it. We've been in Osage Beach two weeks in a row, really makes me miss being there.

Yeah, that was in MO. Ozark Mountains are more like big hills, but it's a good workout for a truck when towing.

great boat.

my wife actually wants me to buy a bigger truck and boat to start fishing more and hunting less. oh yea, that plan wont backfire up into her face
if i got a boat it would be one of the multi-species fishing rigs.
