My uncle retired in his early 50's, died less than a year later.

My grandfather retired, died less than a year later.

My uncle Adam got pushed into retirement in his late 60's. He could not take it, so he went back to work and worked until he was in his 90's

Some of the best one liners come from OK and TX.

Clyde Stout, early 80's age neighbor in Houston would visit me while I was fixin' to do projects. Mid 90's. Most of them were first time projects where I had no experience. I'd let him know I was a little skeered.

He'd say "That ain't no hill for a stepper like you".

Took a while to sink in but that was a compliment. :)

My favorite is "You're riding my ass like a Christmas pony". Not from Clyde but definitely from a Texan.

This is a good thread and a reminder that life can be fragile and should be enjoyed.

I'm thankful for good health, great family \ people and good opportunities to make it balanced.

One of my favorite Texan lines, “He’s all hat and no cattle.” Referring to a poser, urban cowboy, fake person. Don’t be all hat and no cattle.

My cousin was a long haul trucker. He used to say posers were "all horn, no crankshaft".

It's funny, I learned of that idiom in a financial context.
The guy who appears wealthy but actually has no wealth.

The $30k millionaire, so to speak.

It was windy here yesterday - gusts up to 50mph. Our chickens were out. I was reminded of a one-liner I heard my dad say, "It's so windy that chicken laid the same egg twice."

One of my favorites to describe a problem or issue that is simply not your concern, “not my farm, not my pig”.
