Yup. Its strange how that global warming has turned out. Coldest march month here in Sweden in ages.

Record warm temperatures this winter at the North Pole. Higher average world temperatures are weakening the jet stream and allowing warm air and cold air to shift outside of boundaries normally controlled and set by the jet stream. Temperatures in the far arctic were above freezing this winter in months where the temperature average is usually -20 deg F.

Result ? Average temperatures are above normal, but you get an arctic blast, and the North Pole is relatively balmy. Balmy. Now there's a word.

La Nina year.

It is weird, it feels like a typical spring morning here, with all the birds chirping, and the sun shining, yet, there is a blanket of snow, and it is 25 degrees out

ckelly78z 04-10-2018 07:10 AM

The tree huggers have renamed global warming....to....climate change. This way, no matter what happens, climate change can be blamed.

Take heed of this. When the snow is finally gone and the temps rise to civilized levels, the plants are going to explode with new growth. Right now, they're storing up whatever juices and packing them with sugars.

Around here, in pseudo-springs like this year, most things grow too fast for their own good and cool nights are better because they slow things down a bit.

Well said! I'm tired of winter.

I usually have my car out by the end of March.

We're supposed to have three days of warm weather and then the temperature is going to drop again with possible snow on Sunday again. I'm just going to wait.

T.S. Eliot (1888–1965). The Waste Land. 1922.

The Waste Land

I. THE BURIAL OF THE DEAD

APRIL is the cruellest month, breeding
Lilacs out of the dead land, mixing
Memory and desire, stirring
Dull roots with spring rain.
Winter kept us warm, covering 5
Earth in forgetful snow, feeding
A little life with dried tubers.
Summer surprised us, coming over the Starnbergersee
With a shower of rain; we stopped in the colonnade,
And went on in sunlight, into the Hofgarten,
And drank coffee, and talked for an hour.
Bin gar keine Russin, stamm’ aus Litauen, echt deutsch.
And when we were children, staying at the archduke’s,
My cousin’s, he took me out on a sled,
And I was frightened. He said, Marie,
Marie, hold on tight. And down we went.
In the mountains, there you feel free.
I read, much of the night, and go south in the winter.

What are the roots that clutch, what branches grow
Out of this stony rubbish? Son of man,
You cannot say, or guess, for you know only
A heap of broken images, where the sun beats,
And the dead tree gives no shelter, the cricket no relief,
And the dry stone no sound of water. Only
There is shadow under this red rock,
(Come in under the shadow of this red rock),
And I will show you something different from either
Your shadow at morning striding behind you
Or your shadow at evening rising to meet you;
I will show you fear in a handful of dust.
Frisch weht der Wind
Der Heimat zu,
Mein Irisch Kind,
Wo weilest du?
“You gave me hyacinths first a year ago;
They called me the hyacinth girl.”
—Yet when we came back, late, from the Hyacinth garden,
Your arms full, and your hair wet, I could not
Speak, and my eyes failed, I was neither
Living nor dead, and I knew nothing,
Looking into the heart of light, the silence.
Öd’ und leer das Meer...

Just got another big dumping here in MN, I just got back from my weekly early morning grocery run and the roads are drivable. I have to go into work in a few hours to blow snow- overtime pay and I just happen to be rebuilding my engine, so I am putting a positive spin on the snow!

flatbutt 04-15-2018 04:53 AM

I'm hearing that you're getting up to 3 feet!? Do us favor and make sure the door to the east is closed please?

ckelly78z 04-15-2018 05:20 AM

Just shoveled a couple tonnes of snow off my lawn onto the street yesterday. There is still 6" of solid ice in a couple sections.
My goal is to have green grass by August. August might be pushing it, probably be closer to September.

More snow tomorrow.

We had yet another hard freeze last night. We are getting good at covering the tender plants. With luck tonight is the last freeze. I don’t remember so many late freezes here. It has happened before, but not over and over so late.

legion 04-15-2018 07:25 AM

We have been upgraded to rain today! And the high is a blistering 42º!
