i dont think the fish will catch themselves.

i live near a bunch of small lakes. i see people fishing them all the time in 'yaks. i have been half heartedly looking for a small fishing dedicated vessel. thinking of getting a bigger boat so i can stand up.

what about this one? it seems heavy..i would need it to ride on top of my truck topper, i think there is a Yakima side post that helps you put one half of the boat up at a time. that is my next search.

All I know is get the best seat you can afford, and keep your seat time short.

If it were me, long hours of fishing deserves a chance to stand and stretch out a bit.

Well it doesn't look like that sucker will keep you dry but more than that I wonder how stable it'll be with you sitting on top. Do you know how wide the beam is? If there is any boat traffic I see that thing getting unstable pretty quickly. Bear in mind that my kayak experience is white water not flat water.

Not sure what your idea of small lakes is but hard to beat a cheap 12 ' - 14 ' aluminum vee hull . For one thing they are relatively stable and you can stand up , stretch and move around a little . Can be propelled by oars , electric trolling motor or small gas outboard . They are a dime a dozen on CL .

A couple of year ago I was traveling in your area and stopped at Clear Lake for a couple of days. There was a kayak fishing tournament happening there. Pretty neat setups that guys had developed for fishing. Many were in an active club and did tournaments all thru the summer.

You ought to be able to find them online to get the lowdown from them as to what they use.

The Hobies that Richard posted are the tits when it comes to fishing kayaks. I used to have an old Royak that I would fish from, back then we called the "sit on top" kayaks "scuppers".

There was a show on Discovery Channel a few years back called Pacific Warriors featuring Hawaiian kayak fisherman in the Hobies going after Tuna, Marlin, Mahi Mahi and Ono. I think you can still watch it on Amazon, I liked it but they canceled it after one season.

Hard to recommend a model without knowing your budget. The Bass Pro 12T is a budget model that will work, but it is not that stable. You could stand up, but not for long.

I love to get out on the water but do not fish much. Of my fellow fishing yak'ers, the Jackson Coosa HD is the fishing rig they have or lust after. Spendy, but they all swear by them.

Super popular down here in New Zealand.
Yip you get wet but the serious spend a small fortune on the correct clothing, not to mention the fish plotters and rods and reels.

Good idea to rent some to get a feel. The Hobies with the propulsion system look nice. One thing about sit on kayaks is you want to get one with a decent keel. Otherwise you'll be blown all around. That one you posted didn't seem to have much of one. I think looking into a cheap aluminum V hull mentioned before might be a really good option for fishing. I had a sit on top kayak for years, and it was loads of fun, but I never used it for fishing. I paddled around in the ocean and rode waves (a real blast) with it. I bought mine from good ole Costco with the accessories being extra. One benefit of mine was that it fit nicely into my (at the time) Ford van.

Mr Vash, if you are looking at a kayak like that, I'd recommend you get an extra good life jacket.

An aluminum dingy with a Honda outboard is a good way to get on the lakes and to stay dry.
