Back in the day; was it typically 5qt?

Now it is all over the place. I check the owners manual almost every single time.

My tacoma is 4.8 qts, but if I let it really drip..5 qt is perfect on the dipstick.

Just did my wife’s Subaru. 4.2 qts. It took about 4.4ish to look great on the dipstick.

I always have partial bottles everywhere.

Oil filters used to be a lot larger and that was more oil too.
Why not use up the left over clean oil from the last fill? I just get it close (but under what I expect) and then top off after startup.

The Mustang takes 8 quarts. Feels like I'm changing the oil in a Porsche... ;)

Wife's Passat takes 6.3 qt. Just changed it today. I hate the cartridge filter on it. What a PIA.

At least they don’t use fractions :)

I mix the leftover oil with a little bit of ATF
It makes great gun oil

Not only is the capacity all over the place, so is the viscosity, and requirements It is crazy how many different fluids I have to stock, and I have to look everything up, even for simple oil changes

On my 911 it's something like 12 quarts....13...14...15....16.....17...(change oil) 12 more....13....14...15....(clean off garage floor)

When I take ownership of a vehicle, I take a sharpie, and write down qts capacity and the drain plug socket size at the front left fender well. Whenever I pop the hood to do the oil change service, I don't have to double-check for the info as it's right there.

My 99 Camry takes 2.5 quarts. $4 for a filter at the dealer. Cheapest car ever to do an oil change on.

Oil filters have gotten down right tiny!

I miss my ‘68 Volkswagen, took pints of oil instead of quarts. I remember I could find Castrol 30Wt on sale for 79 cents a quart.

Try draining it overnight, and you'll get almost 4.75Qt on refill. I run about 500 miles, about then oil starts to burn off from a few heat cycles, add the rest.

I used to get industrial filters to bring up capacities to an even number. They were big filters.

Now every filter I see is about the size of a big walnut. Seems like a strange direction to go with extended oil change intervals.

Both my 1999 F250 powerstroke, and my 2003 6.0L powerstroke take 14.5 qts every 5000 miles.

I just dump in the first 5 liter container and then add 1/2 of the next container and then bring up the level slowly.
(It's about 8 liters for a 400SE)

Once it's on the dip stick it doesn't take much to get it to the top level.

And yes if you over fill it it's worth sucking out the extra oil to bring it down to the correct level.

This is what our truck and the Cobra takes. I used K&N because it has a 1" nut for size reference.

Miata is about 4 quarts, including the filter. 914 or bug is practically nothing.

I was just commenting to the wife, part of the delight with the i3 is not worrying about oil changes anymore.

I think we have put over 5K miles on it in 3 months. No need to keep track of oil changes.
