hip flexor strain

Looking for advice from anyone with experience treating/working with hip flexor strains in middle/high school athletes. Have been to doc and he advises stretch religiously. Have implemented this but would like to hear of any other things we can do to ward off issues. Multi sport athlete who catches in baseball (lots of up and down, squatting, explosive movements).

Going into high school next year and want to have the best possible training regimen to ensure durability. Kid is quite tough and lives to play ball.

Thanks!

Nutrition balancing and hydration as always.
Yoga and ground stretches to strengthen core.

I had something like that and got some https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rolfing done.
Very painful at the time but it worked I guess. I became functional again.
It's a make-or break thing.
Imagine a guy pushing into your hip with his elbow hard as he can. Torture.
And then for the next few weeks or more you feel balanced and normal again

Ballet is something to consider too, no seriously

The preponderance of the sports injuries I see are secondary to a lack of flexibility.

took me 40+ years to believe in stretching, not an easy thing to convince a 13 yr old to do it.

thinking yoga might be an easier sell than ballet

I don't doubt that for a moment.

I kind of regard swimming as a cure-all, but it really isn't. It does help most things though in my experiences. So I Googled "swimming hip flexor strains" and this is the first article hit. Many other hits, seems to be

Swimming for Hip Flexor Injuries

Quote:
A 2010 article in “The Open Sports Medicine Journal” discovered gaps in the literature about rehabilitation and return to play criteria for hip flexor injuries. The type of injury, cause and symptoms play a significant role in determining the most beneficial exercises for your rehabilitation. Swimming may be one alternative exercise to include during your recovery, but it comes with some precautions. Consult with your doctor or an exercise professional before swimming with a hip flexor problem.
Some articles say pain can come through swimming, so is it a cause or a cure?

Anterior hip pain with swimming

Just something to look into in any case.

When my hips bothered me one thing that would quickly aggravate it was sitting on a hard floor. Something about the angle I suspect.

I was having some minor issues with one of my rotator cuffs in my shoulder, read an article that said don't sleep on the side that bothers you. Who knew something so simple would resolve the issue so quickly?

Point is it could be a simple modification of behavior to avoid agitation.
