There was a "Mythbusters" on this subject. I seem to recall them trying a bunch of commercially available solutions like this and none of them worked.

Several years ago when I was still working, one of the techs was road testing a customer's 911 that had one of those plate covers. The police stopped him and he showed the officer the repair order and explained that it was not his car. The officer made the tech call the customer and tell him the plate cover was being confiscated and then made the tech take it off and give it to him.

Even if they do work, which I doubt, why would you want to attract attention ALL the time?

Yep anything that covers the plate is illegal in most states. It is not enforced very well.

Here in the PRNM, the license plates on about 1 in 10 cars have been wiped with paint remover or something that takes the sheen off the plate and usually the state name and other info. Numbers and letters are somewhat visible. Looks like the plate has been left out in the desert for a couple of decades. Even see this on cop cars and municipal buses and other gubermint vehicles. I'll try to grab some photos. Against the law to deface your plate. Except if you work for the gubermint.

Maybe put these on the plate bolts. Make the Ferd look pimped out.

I think you have to put it on before running the red light.

Same here. I don't think it's a rule that gets enforced often, though.

Or do what pickup trucks do, and attach a ball-type trailer hitch so close to the plate you can't read the central 3 or 4 digits.

I have seen a clear plate cover that does work. Somehow it looks fine to the naked eye but the license plate is blurry to a video camera.

The problem is the cops can see it "working" through their on board video camera/screen.

The local newspaper says that if you ignore the letters they eventually drop it. Haven’t heard from them in a couple of months.

I bought some ultra bright infrared led's to make a plate frame years ago. Photo radar camera's *should* be blinded by it, but shouldn't be seen by the fuzz. Sortof like an invisible flashlight in the cameras eyes. Would only work on a digital camera.
Another project waiting to be completed.

Confirmed by the fact that where they are installed, the yellow to red cycle is often shortened.

IF I went to court, I would have brought that up. I went out and timed similar intersection lights with the same speed limits. The yellow phase was a 1/2 to a full second shorter on the photo enforced intersections. Fooking thieves.

When the cameras were up here, you'd never see a court, nor were they ever gonna hit you for points on your license, etc. ....just a $ grab.
I ignored the letters and occasionally answered a "call" back then....

Yep, it was me...but I ain't paying jack!

We'll send it to collections....

I don't care

After a year or so they gave up....never heard squat from them again...
