Spaghetti Westerns
If another western comes on while I am channel surfing I always move on. I have OAB- over the air broadcast stations and it is free for 64 channels. Came across the No Name trilogies and Hand em High. Had to watch it. Until 2:00 in the morning. Clint Eastwood's westerns "Once Upon a Time in the West" are always worth watching again and again.

One of my favorite movies of all it "Outlaw Jose Wales." I bought the DVD and ripped a copy of it for my phone. On a recent trip to Washington DC I had a long delay and was stuck in the airport. I watched that one and the greatest western of all time, Blazing Saddles.
HBO ran a bunch of Clint's old Spaghetti westerns recently. I recorded them and watched them at a my leisure. Good stuff.

Hang em High was Eastwoods first movie and western after he had returned to the US a star from making 3 Spagetti westerns for Sergio Leone. He got 1m for it.
After Rawhide ended he got hired by Leone to go A Fistfull of Dollars for 15000. Then For A Few Dollars More he got 35000. Then for the opus Good Bad Nd the Ugly he got 250000. Eli.Wallach told Henry Fonda that he had a good time making the GBU so Fonda played the villian Frank in Once Upon a Time In The West. Fonda showed up with a beard but Leone had him shave it off. Both the Good and Once I would place in the top 10 Westerns. |

I put most of John Wayne's westerns in the same category.
"Sons of Katie Elder", "Rio Bravo", "The Undefeated", "Chisum", "Big Jake", "El Dorado", True Grit", "The War Wagon", and of course "The Shootist". Hard not to watch any of those when they come on.....

There are some great westerns coming out of China. Seriously, China. Look for something called “the good, the bad and the weird”.

You can't forget Ennio Morricone's great contribution to those movies, his musical compositions were like another character in the films.

Here's a couple of more modern westerns that're among my favorites.
![]() '3:10 to Yuma' is a remake of a 1957 film starring Glenn Ford. Both versions are really good. ![]()

Can't leave out "Two Mules for Sister Sara" (my personal favourite), "Joe Kidd", and "High Plains Drifter".
