I'm dumber than Houdini turtles....

If you don't want to read my turtle woes (again)...return to forum

I've had a floating turtle trap (Pond King) set out for about a year now (not over the winter though), and have captured and relocated at least 40. Today, I finally verified what I had been suspecting for a while....some are escaping from my trap....dagnabbit
I think mebbe some whoppers are sorta going in and allowing already captured ones to escape...but I dunno. I think I'm gonna set my trail cam up on the trap (in video mode), and see if turtle movement trips the camera....I doubt it....

....but three more turtles have a new home....they are the dumber ones

Oh yeah....something bit through both floating (boat) fenders last fall....sank the dang trap.
It's war, and I'm not sure who's winning???

Oh well....back at it....

Too many of them have a negative impact on fish. I think I'm done with eliminating the huge snappers...I've shot five that were in the 2' diameter range (still have a few left), and the 40 yellow sliders I've relocated (most 5-8") are just a faction of the total count....pond balance...they have no predators other than me....I want to remove a few dozen more.

A pond alligator would take care of that issue quickly.

Down here, the alligators snack on turtles with a big pop and chit squirting out in all directions.

When they finish off your turtles they just head over to your neighbors. Fish are safe.

When I lived in Jax decades ago, we had lots of gators 4-6' long in all the unfenced apt holding ponds....no turtles, dawgs, cats, or kids . They'd relocate them when they got bigger...

Used to see lots of 'em fishing the lakes and rivers, but nothing like one time in the Okefenokee swamp.....me and my buddy Bob in a smaller john boat....and literally hundreds, if not thousands of gators....BIG azz gators...and us in a boat no longer than some of 'em. I think I saw them licking their lips...
