mouse cursor freezing - W 10

My Windows 10 OS did an update over the weekend.

Ever since, my mouse is freezing up on me.

I just tried to restore - had to create a restore date so just typed in April 2018. Did the restore....still freezing up.

PITA! Takes about 2 minutes to unfreeze (just have to wait it out) and then I have about 20 seconds before it freezes up again.

Did Google searches and tried stuff - didn't work. I may have to re-install my OS but hoping not to.

I also tried the feature to go back to the last version of Windows and that didn't help.

Apple users can go ahead and laugh - I've not really had any problems with this PC until this.

Maybe I should go back further than April.

Thanks for any suggestions!

Is it a combo Logitech wireless key board and mouse? If not, I would use them as they seem to work forever. It might sound silly but did you replace the batteries in the mouse and if so get them in the right way? I have had students that have more experience than me do that.

Next try starting the Windows Settings Manager then select your Devices Icon and see what mouse is selected as it might be different?

Last thing would be to start the Windows Task Manager and see if you can find the mouse service then stop it and restart it.

I have some weirdness with my sound similar to yours and sometimes the default sound system gets switch to external stereo speakers when it should be the built in NVidia sound system I feed to my 40 inch flat screen through aa HDMI cable?

Huh....old battery showed low (under 1V for a AA (1.5V) so popped in a new one. If this is the culprit I will be stoked!

But why in ALL the sites I accessed on the Internet did NONE say anything about checking the battery. Drives me crazy.....

Looks like that fixed it, John...just the battery. I feel kinda dumb but again - nothing I searched provided any info on that. I bet it would be on the LT site though.

Anyway - thanks again! Hope you get your audio sorted out. It's always something, huh?

Don't feel bad. When I first started with computers I was going to school with a Binary Code programmer and he worked to Teledyne as a contractor as the US Navy's sonar software was written in Binary Code.! He would be on call every night as I was many years later and one night he got a call as the new software load to a FBM submarine had stopped. "please fix it they pleaded" He asked what color lights were on the face of the processor box and the manager said "none"? He said go around back and make sure all plugs are in their proper places.......opps, one was laying on the floor! Please plug it in and the software load resumed! He got paid for 8 hours that night, great over time! Nobody would admit going in back of the hardware piles?

Ha....that's a great story! Guess it always boils down to the basics and it always pays to start off there.

I still can't believe this was as easy as the battery. In the back of my head I seemed to remember another time when after an update the mouse was freezing. That's what infected my thinking...lol.

Very early in my IT career, when dealing with other folks, I learned something fast...assume NOTHING....particularly the most obvious things that would seem intuitive to most

If software, also read you can go to start/control panel/devices/mouse, uninstall drivers, plug it back in and the system should automatically recognize reinstall and get it working again.

(thx for your help before mr rogers)
