Tell us about your work truck!

What Does Your Work Truck Say About You?

I liked the line "Back when money was tighter (I only had $700,000 in the bank but at least my house was paid off), I had this older truck – a 1984 Nissan compact pickup!"

I bought this 2004 F550 with 82K miles from the town i work for. Sealed bid $1005.00.
Had to put a new (rebuilt ) 6 speed in it and a new turbo on it (6.0 diesel).
Been doing rust repair on it. New cab corners , rockers, bumper, etc.
Just use it to haul my firewood and gravel for the driveway and plow/ sand with it.

That article is hilarious and contains a lot of truth. Most of us Americans haul around a truck, instead of the other way around 99.9% of the time. I once had a very crotchety economist explain how much of the typical dumbschit's household budget goes to supporting their lifted PU or Lincoln Navigator.

That article was a fun read. Thanks. I should sell my hardly ever driven '77 Dodge Power wagon, but hate dealing with tire kickers...

Excellent article.

Leaves out the recreation and towing aspect of trucks though.

I had a bike rack on a small SUV before, much rather have the bikes in the bed of my pickup truck.

Then there is helping friends move furniture part, making money if you get paid, but that is a rarity.

2008 crash kicked my businesses ass. I kept selling off vehicles until I was down to a single 2004 Toyota 4x4 in 2010. Then I sold that and just used my FJ Cruiser since I was the only employee left in a company that once used to employ 20 people and had 5 fleet trucks.

I hated putting the Miles on the FJ and in 2012 bought Old Blue (you're my boy Blue!) intending to use it for 2 years and get rid of it. I loved that truck so much I kept it for 4 years and the ONLY reason I sold it was because in 2016 My CPA told my to buy something for the company to reduce my Obamafine.

Old Blue (You're my boy Blue!) had the cops called on me a few times because I looked sketchy in this truck parked in vacant homes driveways.

I purchased Goldie, and I hate her, I miss blue every day since.

When running and when it is nice out and I do not have a lot to do I take out my Mini Truck.

I love this little truck. And hate it too.

Now I am trying to figure out how to put our BMW i3 to use once my wife is done using it to commute 100 miles a day. In a couple of years she will not need it anymore.

Back in 2003 I had to go to a pre-construction meeting on a job site, I always tried to show up in one of our work trucks. I only purchased Toyota Tacoma's.

This particular day I was behind schedule and did not have time swap out vehicles at the office. So I had to go there in my 1980 Porsche 911, I paid 23K cash for this car 2 years prior. I knew what was going to happen and was ready for it when I got there.

I tried to sneak in unnoticed and picked a spot to park as quick as possible. They saw me.

As I am walking up, one of the contractors makes an proclamation, "Hey Bob, I think we are paying the surveyor too much money." Laughs all around... Since I was expecting that I asked out load how much his F350 King Ranch cost these days. Then answered myself, somewhere around 60K? You could buy three of those for the same price as one King Ranch. I think maybe you all are being paid too much.

That ended that conversation.

I’ve had the same conversation with one of our other engineers at work. He was upset when I pointed out that his new Neon 2.0 cost more than either of the 911s I had at the time...

This is mine, 23yr old ex-Wildlife Trust Bambi Rescue Ambulance,

My daily driver, done many cross Europe family trips, moved tons of weekend building supplies and during the week an F1 race team car park eyesore

Front passenger/rear seats removed, has a 15ft long load area, I valet the inside with a yard broom and wash it once a year. Mechanically it's serviced on the dot and in perfect running order.

I love my truck too much to worry about what my truck says about me

Herr Oberst.....

LOVE that compact Nissan truck!!!

I've only had 3 work trucks in my lifetime (if you don't include my Volvo 145's!)

The first was a '76 Ford F250, the second a '93 Chevy WT1500, and the third is my current ride...an '02 Chevy Silverado 1500 with over 200K on the clock.

There's nothing like a good work truck!

Hmmwv. I have other work trucks, but this one is dedicated. Stays up in N. AZ. Use it to go out to the field to check on fencing, the trees, or turn on the gen set. As seen. Pulled some monster juniper out of the ground, and dragged many trees. Rarely sees black top.

Hauling wood chips, top soil, and fertilizer is a weekly event for my truck. She's a labor of love I guess. I have to constantly tinker with her to keep her in working condition. Now she is leaking from the transfer case...an expensive repair. Nevertheless, I'd still rather have it than a newer truck.
