Anybody watching Yellowstone?
New show with Kevin Costner- five episodes have aired so far. Lots of interesting characters- the more I watch it the more I like it.
Yellowstone | Paramount Network

As a guy working on a actual cattle ranch with actual cattle, there are things you have to try really hard to ignore. Once upon a time we did lease Rez land for a few breeding groups so I know some stuff.
But just basic's like a bovine calf doesn't hit the ground running when you yank it out..I'm not sure that there are any land based mammals were that actually happens. So it's stuff like that that raises a eyebrow on me. I just pretty much look at it like a cattle based show vs. the oil based television series Dallas from the 70s and 80's.-WW |

We stopped watching it. My wife didn't like how Costner's (who is supposed to be the good guy) ranch hand had one of his guy's assassinate one of their own.

Same here, that and the whole deal if you are branded with the "Y" you are special and protected. Way to much testosterone fueled crap. As Wetwork said, just an updated version of Dallas...

I think in one episode, there were 3 murders that were being covered up....literally !

The wife and I watched one episode and could not take anymore. I like Costner but this is not one of his best roles by far.

I've watched this and will offer an alternative opinion-
Those thinking Costner is supposed to be a "good guy" are getting it wrong. Yes, he's family first, and lives by his own definition of morality, but...... So did Don Corleone!! sp? I would speculate that the show was pitched as "The Godfather", in Montana. You get branded......you're "made".....once in you're in for life, and untouchable. The comparison is a perfect fit for the family.. Young, ex-military medal winner wants independence and autonomy from the family business... Michael Corleone Middle child is fully prepared to commit to whatever is required to advance the family business and achieve more power at the expense of others...Ruthless and favored by Dad..... Sonny Corleone.....re-written as a female to add a little spice Oldest child thinks he's ready to run things, but Dad knows he's incapable of doing everything that needs to be done......lacks leadership and strength to lead. Rejected as leader of next generation.. Freado Corleone.... Add in the res leadership, and the land developer as opposing "families", and you've got your competing interests to fight for power...... Just like the other mafia families. Thoughts? Maybe I spent too much tine analyzing this..... ![]() |

I agree with the over the top "Dallas" nature of it and would normally stop watching for flaws like that. But I find a lot to like about it beyond that and have a hard time not enjoying every episode more. I think the show will find its feet and get better.

I have been watching and agree with the Dallas similarity.
I like the back round landscape vistas, beautiful country. I also enjoy the occassional bits of cowboy wisdom, euphemism and bravado. |
