DO NOT USE PVC FOR COMPRESSED GASES!!!

When (not if) it fails, it will splinter into a million small knives that fly through the air and penetrate anything it hits.

PVC gets brittle over time and can crack, break, or even shatter. The presence of air compressor oils in the line and heat from the compressed air accelerates the degradation of PVC. These failures, combined with air under pressure, are potentially fatal due to the airborne, razor-sharp shrapnel. If you are a business, it is also an OSHA violation to use PVC for compressed air distribution, which means you could incur a hefty fine.

Today I went to the closest Northern Tool and purchased the 100 ' Rapid Air kit . I was able to figure out a way to NOT have to buy extra Rapid Air fittings ( $$$$ ) . Basically going to have a short run of aprox. 5 ' of black iron from the compressor through the wall to a tee . The bottom of the tee will have a ball valve for draining moisture the top of the tee is where I will start with the Rapid Air . Then it will be Rapid Air throughout the garage . Should work out perfect and I'll have a little bit of pipe left over for the other compressor in the basement of the house . It's a win/win

That sounds like a good plan. Are you using a flexible hose between the compressor and the black iron pipe?

Garage
I have a 50' rubber hose from the freight on one of those round retractor thingies 10' upon the wall.

Please tell me the hose "kit" you guys are referencing has hose that does not expand.

I get 140psi out of my pretty stout 110 compressor but if I bust off a lug nut, I can hear the rubber hose filling back up as the tank seethes air back into it.

Tired of this.

Yes a flexible hose will go from the compressor to the black iron pipe , this stops vibration from the compressor going into the lines . Or so I am told .

There was a recent thread about using a spare propane tank as a reservoir.
That was a pretty slick idea. Maybe scuba or other tanks in series could work.

My old 25gal 175psi craftsman could barely keep up with a standard HPLV paint sprayer.
(but it did fit in the car in a pinch)
It was running hot and constantly and there was only 10-15 seconds of spray time before it needed a long rest.

Yes the Rapid Air " hose " kit has a special hose , it is made up of three layers . The inner and outer surfaces are vinyl coated and in between is an aluminum core . It is semi rigid so it comes in a coil and you un-roll as needed . You can make bends in it and when straightened it will hold the straight shape . The kit I purchased stated it was good to 200 PSI if I remember correctly .

My dad used an old water heater tank for a reserve tank . Get one that isn't rusted out and it's easy to convert . Just plug the threaded holes you don't need and use the holes you do need . It is designed to hold pressure so a good match . We used that tank for years with no issues .
