My parents used one of these for at least 20 years when i was a kid, mom probably still has it. Bet it still works as god as when it was new.
Pretty much bullet-proof if you can stand the taste.

I usually get about 5 years out of the cheapo Mr. Coffees I buy. They usually clog up with minerals and die. Long time ago I would run vinegar through them to clean out the mineral build up but then the heater tubes would sprout leaks so I just run them till they clog up.

I have a Mr Coffee that lives on my job site. Cheap, 29.99 at Target. It keeps on going and going for a few years. It takes everything we throw at it. Never gets washed. Usually someone drops a stick of 2x4 on it and that's the end of that. If I want to get fancy, I just drive down to a local Starbucks

These are made in a free country - Holland, no Chinese junk. 5 year warranty. No gimmicky controls that break either. I have a base model and it has served me well - the coffee is brewed HOT - no difference from hand pour that I can taste.

Yes, it is more expensive than the garbage you buy at WalMart. I don't know about you though - I enjoy keeping an item for a long time if it suits me well. I also do not like to throw away things every couple of years.

G

I love mine. Built like a tank.

I want the Technivorm, but have not convinced the wife we need a $300 coffee maker.

We have a cheap Hamilton Beach. We don't spend much on coffee makers because they eventually plug up regardless of cleaning frequency.

My Aeropress has four parts, only one of which is moving. Not much to break!

We have this one and it has been dead nuts reliable for 5 years. No heat plate to spoil the coffee flavor but it stays hot for 3 hours. We use it every day and still flush with vinegar 2x per year to remove scale from the heating element. We do use a press for special occasions or travel but for every day quality and convenience, this is a winner.

Option B: Go French Press and don't worry about it not working when you need it... because there aren't really any parts that break. Benefit, you get consistently good coffee.

You are evil... EVIL!!!

I think I have something for my Christmas list ;):D

At home I have a french press but usually I'm lazy and use the Nespresso.

At work I have a Mr Coffee from Goodwill, Only bought it because I broke the carafe on my original. The original Mr Coffee is still going +10 years five days a week. Only reason I'm using the Goodwill machine is because it has auto off, no more burnt coffee when I come to the shop on break.

And then there is my holy grail:
