my plow disc "pan"!

this thing is pretty cool. the maker even gave it a serial number. pretty funny.

the welds are crazy. i can barely detect the center where he welded the plow shaft hole closed. he sent me a seasoned one, and it is not what i would call ready to cook. i'll clean it up and give it another go tonight.

i was concerned that there was gonna be too much overlap with my wok, but no..these are vastly different pans. this is closer to a paella pan than a wok..or a flat griddle.

i am gonna replicate "tony's tacos" from LUCY"S in el paso texas for cinco de mayo.

Albuquerque, doesnt totally suck.

Those are mad skills. Where I grew up we would have called that a disc rather than a plow. In those days we used a moldboard plow as the initial step to turn over the sod. We'd run the disc over the plowed furrows a few times to break up the chunks of dirt and get the ground smooth. Then we'd finish with a drag to get everything as smooth and level as possible. At that point the field would be ready for planting. I think now the technique is to be "low till" and combine the plow and disc into one implement that uses discs like the one you have.

So how are you going to use it? It's almost a wok, but you have one of those. Maybe a quick stir fry pan?

when i initially decided i wanted one. i was gonna ask the pelicanOT community if they had any old plow disc..okay..disc laying around. i know plenty of you all have awesome land sectors and some of those would need plowing.

then i could DIY one. hahah..that would have probably cost me $1000 plus with shipping, material, welding, EmergencyRoom copay, burned shirt, burned wooded deck, etc.

this one cost me $45 plus $15 to ship.

Any idea how old it is? The metal looks very thick. Judging from that I would guess it is pretty old. The handles are incredible. They're as thick as horseshoes. He had to have fabricated them from scratch.

Good cost Analysis there Vash!

Nice welds for sure.

Got to see what comes off it for Cinco de Mayo.

Cheers Richard

i assumed it was new (?). it is 18.3" in diameter. do they make disc that small? or is it worn down that size? it is 1/8" thick. watching a plow go buy, i imagined them thicker.

the handles are cool. he had the horseshoe option, but that was too rustic for me.

taco tuesdays!!

yea, maybe. the edges (look like they) have been ground down with a grinder.

not sure "Poseur" is the correct application..since it's a cooking pan, and not (a person) pretending to be a discs for yardwork.

Not big enough to be a plow disc. It is either made for the purpose or a blade off of a disc harrow that has had the cutting edge ground off.
Not that it matters. It's cool, and if it works for you - terrific!

Interesting. I would have expected a plow disc to be a lot thicker than 1/8".

WAYYY!! Off topic here, but there is a difference between a disc plow and a disc harrow. A disc plow has 2, 3, or 4 large - 24" to 40" discs that are deeply dished and designed to turn undisturbed soil.

A disc harrow has a dozen or more smaller diameter discs that are designed to break up and level previously plowed ground.

Vash's cool cooking disc appears to be a cutter from a disc harrow.

I had no clue such a cooking instrument was available. Your disc skillet ( OK that reveals the hillbilly in me) is pretty cool, I'll have to order one.

I don't know where you grew up, but it could have been our back 40. I used to love to catch a ride on the drag. The tractors only went 4-5 mph with such a load back then. I would be so totally covered with brown dust that my mom would make me wash off (ie give me a shower with a cold garden hose) before she would let me in the house. I don't know how much damage all that dust did to my lungs. Good times.
