Any of our local forum pilots build a Stratux?

Howdy,

I was just curious if any of our pilots built themselves a Stratux?

Everything went as planned, right up to the power test.
When ordering all of my components, I ordered up the Raspberry I was informed that they were now selling the Pi 3 B+. I didn’t think anything of it figuring it would be fine.

My question to the Group is, has anyone figured out how to make the new board comparable with the FW??
Since I cannot get the Stratux to boot up, I’m thinking it’s a FW issue.

Thoughts?

There are a number of possibilities, you need to eliminate some to get to the solution.

Since PI's boot from SD cards I would first verify the board is not DOA and the current card is good / OS installed correctly.

Get another SD card, make sure you get an 8 GB ( or better) class 10 card.

Download NOOBS and build a boot disk.

Plug the PI into a TV / monitor via HDMI and see if it boots.

If yes I would reload whatever OS you are using for the Stratux and try again with no peripherals hooked up.

If it boots start adding stuff in.

Thanks! I'll start working on your recommendations.

I know enough about the finer Pi details to be dangerous. But I am willing to learn.....

Cheers

FWIW, the most common boot problems with PIs are the SD Cards not being formatted properly.

When you download NOOBS there should be links for standalone 3rd party formatting utilities that will do it the right way.

If it is a secondary source of personal GPS information (porting to an extra phone or laptop in the cabin) it sounds like a cool DIY project.

If it is officially sending/receiving over FAA/FCC/other networks....well...

Yup, receive only. The stratux build will work with several flight programs out there. Armed with an iPad or tablet will provide a lot of data. ADS-B out is a whole different subject, especially with the Jan,1 2020 implementation date right around the corner. $$$$

Here is a good article that is a couple years old.
