Okay, I'm old and shopping for a recliner chair
Knee replacement is in my future... wife has back problems... so we are thinking about splurging on super nice super comfortable chairs.
The love seat in the living room is about five years past due to be thrown out... So it has finally happened, while my parent just sat on the couch to watch TV like Ozzie and Harriet, my best friend parents (I may have spent more time over at his house than at home) I can still remember it... They sat side by side in their recliners, watching TV, sipping Gin and tonic, and smoking cigarettes like there was no tomorrow. (in retrospect not a bad life) Long story short we went shopping last Sunday, stopped by a big department store (Macy's) they had a small collection but some nice stuff I could live with. Stopped by the Laz-E boy store, huge selection, found some chairs we really like but big $$$ (almost twice the department store price) However I did a internet search and they have a bunch of negative online reviews. We were okay with paying the extra $$ for high quality but now seems like that may not be the case. Anyone here have a comfortable super tough/reliable chair they like? Thanks in advance.

I've been thinking of one after my current Lazy boy wears out...and they usually do, regardless of brand.

I agree..."relax the back zero gravity chair"
I looked at Laz-E boy also...too much $$$. One thing I discovered in my searching is that my body loves it when my head is lower than my feet while in a fully reclined recliner. Some, if not most, recliners don't allow that...except for relax the back, etc.

My parents know furniture, high end furniture, and I grew up in the epicenter of it....High Point. Many years ago, I went with them to the LazEBoy store...they had a recliner cut in half....showing it's "guts"... my parents furnished their den with a recliner and a sofa/recliner....they were sold

G'day!

I just looked up the "zero gravity chair" and on Amazon overall it has a very good rating but there are a lot of reviews that say they fall apart pretty quickly and are a bit fragile.
It's not a lot of money so stands to reason they wouldn't be built like a fortress. Anyone own one of these want to respond? The link above is for the Caravan Sports Infinity model. Thanks!

We (My supreme commander, I just pay without any say on the product) just bought at Lazyboy. Its two ends and a center put together to make one 7' couch for the Family room. This stupid is pretty comfortable and all three pieces recline. Of course she picked the electronic one with the motor that does all the reclining work. think of it as the elect seat in your car. I have to say, we no longer have to sleep side way with a cranked neck just to watch TV. When the stupid recliner is up or out, I an guarantee to fall asleep after a long day in the saddle.

Scott, if you are only getting one chair, I would spsend the big bucks on a massage chair. Those Japanese ones are pretty darn good. I just don't like to look at the bulky thing in my familyroom.

Going to get two chairs, wife needs something firm because of her back and I want the deluxe electric model. I like that the footrest and recliner are separate functions.
I suppose the bad reviews I saw may be people who bought a recliner and just assumed that all recliners were La-Z Boy's when actually they bought a cheap knock off. If I could see a cutaway showing solid wood etc I also would be sold.

Those look super nice, we sat on something similar in Macy's and liked them. I'm afraid to ask what they cost.

I sat in one of those reclining massage chairs at Costco and was in absolute paradise for 10 minutes.
(ok I admit 30 minutes because it was empty and I dun paid my membership dues.) Neck back and calves. Back was the only big relief. It was heaven but it was also three grand..but cheaper than surgery. Looked online and there were supposedly some dependability issues with that particular brand although the store has a good rep. There are many on the market. You have to try one out in a Sharper Image store or search for a local Migun massage bed clinic...very worth it! |

I’ve had one for 30+ years.
No idea what it cost, as I came home one day and it was there. It’s very comfortable though! |

Recently bought my wife a "Flexsteel" electric powered recliner. Think it was around a grand. Very comfortable and they are well made.

I have a Lazy-Boy leather recliner and a Lazy-Boy reclining couch. I've had both for around 6 years.
The recliner gets half the use of the couch. The foam on the couch is crap. I'm not a big guy and I had to get the foam replaced this year.

Scott, go to Lazy Boy and they have a cut away view of their recliner. I am pretty particular about my furniture or typical construction of things in general. They look ok compared to many out there.
