So How Many Of You Cut Your Grass?
On my street there are only two of that cut our grass with the other neighbor being retired so he enjoys it. Its amazing how many lawn maintenance guys \ trucks are on the street every day.
I do it because I love the exercise, the smell of fresh cut grass, take pride in my yard and the $1,000+ I save per year I use to buy silly car parts. How about y'all? Yasin |
I cut my own, I hate every step of it.
Always do my own. An acre takes me about an hour. I always enjoy doing it until late fall when it's cold and windy. My JD is comfortable riding with power steering.
Yes I cut my own lawn , plus 30 clients to keep me busy in retirement.
I enjoy lying in the shade with a cold beer watching my robot mower do the job. Its quite, effective and the result from cutting all day long is a very healthy, even, green turf. Like a golf green actually. One of my best investments ever.

Ye, I still mow my own yard. It takes me two hours from start to finish. I have just over a 1/4 mile of concrete sidewalk to edge. My wife is a certified Master Gardner and and has added flower beds, shrubs and trees all over the pace. She points and grunts and I dig a hole, she plants another tree. I have no long straight lines to mow. Everything bit of yard has an obstetrical to mow around except one 6x8 foot chunk in the front yard and it is a fairly steep angle. If it were flatter she would plant something there.

I cut my own grass. Always had the thought as long as I can do it myself why pay someone to do it for me but I am starting to change my mind. Seems I have less free time on my hands these days and would rather be doing something else with that 2 hours a week.

Cut my own...
Got to do mine today.
I cut my own - four/five hours to do it all. I have two 4x4 diesel CUT's with 72" decks.
Without these I would be on top of the Texas Bell Tower in a week: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1528720327.jpg |
Have had a 1 1/2 acre lot - used a zero turn. Was not a horrible job, but took a couple hours 1x to 2x/week.
Now - house is on a .25acre lot in town. 1/2 hour & a beer, plus edging. What’s worse - my son is 12 and can start the mower himself. He enjoys the “bump” in allowance when he cuts it. Still takes me a 1/2 hour & a beer, however.... |
I do mine also slow and rustly. It is a hot hot job here in Houston. Considering some bright LED lights on mower so I can get it done after dark.
Cut my own 5 acres with over 1000' of road frontage/ditch, I also cut my daughter's place 1/4 mile down the road from us. I enjoy it on a 30 HP 4x4 diesel with a 72" cut (and headphones). I would consider doing as 1975porsche does, and taking on a few clients in retirement.

I mow and do most of the yard work myself. My wife helps some.

Cut my own. It's only 4400 sqft and it takes me 20 minutes including trimming. If I don't feel like doing it I'll pay the neighbor kid $10 to do it. Sure beats the 7 acres I had to mow growing up. Bagged. Every fricken week.
I cut mine from time to time . My grandson does it most of the time. Very small yard area but I cut half the empty lot next to me. The owner of the lot lets me use his condo in FL for nothing.
I do my own. I know where all the sprinkler heads are. Once in a while I'll hit one. It's a real pain to get the head adjusted right.
Always do my own. Actually my wife frequently does the mowing while I edge, trim, and blow out the planters. With a Honda self-propelled mower it's like going for a walk, not hard at all.
2.5-3 hours of pushing the same mower x 15 years once or twice a summer week. The closer it gets to 90F, the more I hate it. It is a reasonably healthy work out though.
Like you, my nextdoor neighbor and I are the only ones who mow our own lawns in the neighborhood. We have a large yard fully landscaped....my 13 year old son does most of it now but I help out because I enjoy it.
