When we lived in Hawaii on Hickam, AFB we lived in yard mowing heaven. Dad was an officer, so we lived in the quarters for Majors. The general's houses were close by.
My brother had fights over who's turn it was to use dad's mower. We each had our own gas can and gas was NOT shared. My brother even drained the mower's tank after he used it. Dad stopped that, he made a rule, it was to always be FULL before it was put away.
That poor mower ran pretty much every day that the weather allowed, and that is most of the year. There was never a fall or winter to worry about. I mowed may yards on New Year's day. Likely pissing off some hung over people.
One general invited my into his study to write me a check. On the wall was a African spear. He said they landed on a savanna during the end of WW2 and a tribe of natives came out shoot arrows. That spear stuck in him and caused a lot of bleeding and he was the pilot at the time. He was a fascinating guy.
