Triumph Bonneville

Was this edition rare enough to demand an above market price?

Didn't think so...I swear, some folks will buy anything that has McQueen attached to it.

My friend bought a 2005 Bonneville 2 weeks ago with low miles for $3500. It’s a neat bike, not my cup o tea. Looks quite a bit like the McQueen bike but is black and cream.

I'd rather have one of those gorgeous Thruxtons.

The one in the link was built 33 years after he died, so that's a safe assumption.

I know that, just pointing out it has nothing to do with the one from The Great Escape that sold for big bucks, because McQueen owned it.

Owned an 09 Bonnie for a while. Easy on the eyes but not much fun to ride. Not sure why, but it never put a smile on my face.

Wow I would have thought that would have been a great bike for the mountain roads we have here . Did it not have enough power ? Or too smooth not raw enough ? It is lovely to look at .

Great Escape Ltd Edition.

Looks terrible in my book and certainly not worth any premium.

pic wont go---sorry--- its showroom clean, not perfect, but a really great example.
asking $11400
the MY 70 is widely regarded as the best, the new ones, though faster, dont have the same allure.

I owned a 2008 Bonnie and loved it. I loved the sound of it. I loved the riding position. I loved to look at it. Just a pussy cat of a motorcycle. If it wasn’t for the F*ker who pulled out in front of me I would be on it right now.

Hard to say exactly. I’d call the performance bland overall. Kind of appliance-like. Moderate torque, moderate power, moderate handling, moderate comfort, you get the idea. Did everything adequately, but nothing great. Just my opinion of course. I had other bikes on hand that were just more fun to ride. If it were the only tool in the shed my opinion may have been different.

If it wasn’t so damned good looking, I’d have probably sold it sooner. Really dressed up the garage!

Never had a Bonneville but did have this 75 Trident. Front and rear disks, electric start, 900cc, The Triumph road race cams and valves, Dunstall exhaust, the engine was built by Danny Macias, the guy that built the road racers for Triumph. Triumph should have kept these and dumped the Bonneville, these had horizontal split cases and didn't leak, made good power for the time, handled exceptionally well.

I had a '75 T-160 Trident as well. I loved it but it was stock and suffered from the QC issues they were having during that time. They all needed to be rebuilt almost from new.

Yours with a high quality rebuild, (probably blueprinted, etc.), and the Dunstalls and upgrades must have been fantastic. Mine was the yellow/white tank and it got stolen from my yard in Minneapolis in '79. I miss it.
