'58? Just remember, the more stuff you have, the more you have to take care of. All part of the cycle of life.

All that said, the ass pounder 'Vettes are indeed cool.

JackDidley 06-17-2018 07:11 PM

It is OK as long as it is cool stuff. C1s are cool for sure.

chapo 06-17-2018 07:25 PM

My favorite year Vette for style

wayner 06-17-2018 07:43 PM

1961. Its a transition year

speeder 06-17-2018 07:46 PM

Not a ‘62? I love it, anyway. :)

wayner 06-17-2018 07:47 PM

One day it will look like this:

Sir, if the wife gets a bit snarly about this, and other purchases, just explain to her you are a very wise investor.

wayner 06-17-2018 09:21 PM

Uhm, the wife got a bit snarly about me even living there for some reason, she divorced me, I bought a corvette, and Id better be wise investor because after the divorce my economic future depends on it :)

SO now that is out of the way, I only buy things that are about to pop in the market. Things where the heavy lifting has been done and I can extract value relatively quickly.

This one is 90% there as far as paint, so, very quickly I can raise its value, even if it didn't get assembled but sold. So you sir are correct :D

(And, once you have an appreciating asset, why not drive it a bit or keep it for a while)

Your car made me think of Suzanne Somers in American Grafitti...she was angelic in her Thunderbird.

LEAKYSEALS951 06-18-2018 02:56 AM

How's the 928 doing?

wayner 06-18-2018 03:16 AM

I haven’t been in town much so the shop is locked up tight

I have a retired craftsman friend who I farm out work to who is currently finishing the metalwork on the 914

The vette is next in line

The 928 is my personal project but when I’m home I’ve been dedicating my time to getting my house livable now that my renter is out

Still picking up the peices but moving forward each day

It made me think of Bruce Springsteen, but not in the same way
(And I’ve had it with beautiful blonds in cars :-)

I think this one is a 1960 with the original style tail

I am really struggling with this same problem.

I work from home.

I have three driving cars.

I still browse for another.

I'd like to get Corvette #2.

I'd like to get Jaguar #2.

Tobra 06-18-2018 08:17 AM

I am not sure I understand the premise of the thread.

With her gone, don't you have more time and room for cars?

Its a disease. 2 licensed drivers in my household. I have 4 street legal cars, 2 street legal motorcycles, 2.5 race cars, 1 off road motorcycle, 9 bicycles, 2 tractors, push mower, snowblower, weed wacker, chainsaw, & leaf blower. Something is always broken. On the plus side, I always have something to do.

Zeke 06-18-2018 10:12 AM

I had a '61. Last year of the 283 only. You could buy a Vette in '62 with a 283 but I don't think many did opting for the new 327. I went 0.030 over and milled the heads and with a medium cam the thing was reasonably fast. I tried different fuel induction including a stock 'doghouse' FI unit but a Holley 450 CFM was the best performer.

Rear end was 3.70:1 so it was a cruiser more than a strip car. The '61 had SS trim on top of the fenders and around the scallop whereas they were deleted for the '62. Other than those bits the 2 years were identical.

One other interesting bit is that the front end ass'y was a unit bolted to the frame and the same unit could be found on a '51 Chevy PU truck as well as the passenger coupes of the era. This was the case with all C1's.

wayner 06-18-2018 11:24 AM

Good advice on the 283 that I have

Thanks

(As far as the thread premise, I’m starting to understand the show hoarders. I think this is how it begins with some life event, and usually a corvette of some sort :-)

Captain Ahab Jr 06-18-2018 12:25 PM

I have a similar problem, I don't have enough car storage space

I'm fixing this with the obvious solution of not down sizing the number of cars I own but by buying another car and up-sizing my storage space :D

I really love seeing these period pictures with Corvettes.

What a heck of a car it was. You can see it on the posture and expression of the owner/driver!

motion 06-18-2018 03:46 PM

Sweeeeeet car, Wayner. Get that thing fixed up and hit Route 66.

wayner 06-18-2018 04:03 PM

Clock says 20,k Miles.

no wear on seats or pedals:eek:

Who knows if its accurate, but it was on display for 20 years before being "rescued" and paint stripped for restoration.

Too many generations/versions to choose that would all be good fun when it comes to the 'Vette.

Since I have the Z06 with a fixed roof, 'Vette number two would be a removable top variant. But could be C5, C6 grandsport, C7, etc...

With the Jaguar it would be a X100.

I went X150, C5 Z06, so next would be a X100.

I also don't have anything Japanese, when the R33 GTR is legal, hmmm....

pavulon 06-18-2018 05:40 PM

ahhh. I read it as you were in possession of a Corvette and were thinking of a second. Sorry. Carry on!

edit: Forget it. C5 Z06 in your possession! Still need a pic and definitely some sleep and it's only Monday. Also, am still all hot bothered by a LS7 Z06/Z07.

My fav all time Corvette year. I love that rear design.
When I was a HS sophomore ('61) I had a senior buddy (football team mate) who was dumped by some hot babe. She once told him that she loved the new Corvettes...especially the Honduras Maroon exterior with Fawn interior. He wanted that same set up...thinking that he'd impress her into coming back.
Well, his family (farmers who always bought Chevy trucks) was in with the local Chevy dealership and he had a salesmen friend look high and low nationwide for a used or new '61 with those colors.
One was found - stick shift, 327 - and was delivered. I recall somewhere around $5k.
Long story short...she wouldn't pay much attention to him other than to compliment his Corvette.
His affection for the hot babe turned to infatuation for his new rig.
He often came by to pick me up and we'd ride around. I loved that car...never drove it, however.
My all time fav Corvette year!!!
.
Congrats, Wayner!!!

The great thing about Millennium Yellow, the car is covered in bits of trees, leaves, droppings, pollen, burnt rubber, etc, and it still looks like this. :)

I really do not understand the online "hate" for the C5's interior, fantastically styled. I did replace the factory seats, and will likely go to a three spoke Sparco steering wheel.

After carefull look at everything on the aftermarket, the only body modifications I might do would be a rear spoiler. I also want to remove the badge just behind the trunk on top of the rear deck.

That is a really bad idea...

That I wish I had made...

Truly awesome car (and I feel the word awesome is horribly overused)

Unfortunately (or fortunately) I don't have the time/space/$$ to acquire multiple vehicles. There was a extremely cool Studebaker 4 door sedan for sale locally (I'm not a huge Studebaker fan but it looked like so much fun).

However I did just purchase three spoons. ;)

Tervuren 06-23-2018 10:06 AM

Wayner, what color is the finished car going to be?

For that period I'm partial to red, white, or black.

Blue or pastel yellow would be an off the beaten path choice, but the right one would be sharp.

Congrats, Wayner!!!

I had all sorts of responses prepared as I read your post over and over

But the most appropriate one seems to be simply “thanks Don!”

(And don’t worry, I’m keeping it I my no girls allowed back in compound )

The cove will be white or silver
The main colour will be red or black ( I’m partial to black but the car was originally red and has an interesting history)

I'm a fool for yellow cars.
Motion posted a pic of his Ferrari in yellow a long while back and fellow Pelicans puked.
Not me.

Oops, I did it again...

(It’s got some yellow on it. I’m blaming you Don Ro...)

I saw your thread over on the R1100S forum. I'll take the blame as long as it's trouble free for you. Happy that you bought it.
Ride safely!!!

Yeah, I like yellow.
