Targa top windnoise
The Porsche Targa top has been called the 8th Wonder of the World - though some claim the 8th Curse (that being windnoise). I have identified 15 causes of wind noise and water leaks. Here is part 1.
Part 1 1.Top worn out - Cupping of material in front and/or back, with the vinyl beading sticking up creating openings to catch air or water. Top needs 4 Stage rebuild. 2.Only vinyl replaced - The two levels of reinforcement not being replaced when top was done, which causes there to be too much material creating air scoops in the vinyl. 3.Top 'un-square' - When top is rebuilt and all material is removed, top become un-square. A top off ½” will create gaps at the front and rear causing leaks. A fixture was not used during repair. 4.Top sits up in a corner - Wrong front gasket used too large, actually 964 seal. Correct seal not available since 1995 even though part # on bag is correct. I have correct seal in stock. 5.Top high in front - Top not pushed far enough to the back so beading touches the roll bar. Top needs to drop in slot in the front. Something is preventing top from siding back.

Thanks for sharing your wisdom! When everything is right, the Targa top is wonderful. There’s definitely an art to fitting it correctly (helps if you’re patient and a perfectionist).
