944 wide body build
it's been a wile that I have put time into the 944 build.
from the car sitting for a few months the interior was getting some flash rusting so it needed to get some protection on it. the customer wants the car white with martini graphics. I learned years ago painting the interior of a race car in a full gloss is not the best idea as it gives off to much reflection so at times it's hard to see with light shining in your eyes. I went with a Porsche white low gloss using Limco single stage. for the exterior I will be using RM base clear as I will be painting the graphics. I didn't paint the engine compartment yet because the LS3 engine just came in and I haven't installed yet and did the mockup. once I do the mockup and do any needed fabrication work for the engine install I will pull everything apart and spray the engine bay in the same low gloss white. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

where are you locating the fuel cell in the 944 chassis? |

it's a real bad idea to swap to a fuel cell in a 944. it's not needed for racing and the stock fuel tank is a very good design letting you run the tank very low on fuel with out fuel starvation.

I know.... That's why I'm asking.
No isuues with PCA club racing... But not a lot of older cars with similar pace. It's not fun anymore. I found a vintage racing group to take the 944 but they require a fuel cell. My only thought was fuel cell in the trunk and fire wall... I agree not a good or fine idea to install it in a 944. |

a fuel cell is not required for historic race group or HRG the 944 is to new of a car for vintage .
how ever they will let you race a newer car at times just to have a warm body on track. if you do choose to install a fuel cell than they do have a required cell that must be in stalled. if memory serves me correctly it's a FIA/FT-3 cell? being this 944 build I'm installing a LS3 engine the car is being built to SCCA SPO / ITS RULES. it can run in HRG but if run in HRG the car can not collect points because of the engine. we ran our two NC MX-5 cup cars in HRG a few times after the NC cup series ended but being 2009 and 2010 cars they also could not collect any points for winning there classes. I also own a 2003 Diasio but I build a new chassis with the seat in the center of the car used NC front and rear suspension and rx8 brakes installed a 2009 GSRX 1000cc engine transverse. after I did that it made the car eligible for points in HRG. I took the body back off the chassis I made and put it back on the stock diasio chassis and the car is now eligible to collect points with HRG even being a 2003. |
