front fender replacement questions etc.

I am replacing the front fenders and valance on my 75 911s.
I have the fenders and valnce from a 1979.
I have on order a new trunk seal and all the bolts to put on a chin spoiler I have had waiting since i bought the car.
couple of questions regarding installation.
what type of glue should I use for the trunk seal?
and what would you suggest for sealing between the fenders and the chassis?

On the trunk seal you should use 3m black weatherstrip adhesive. When applied properly it sticks very well. For sealing between the chassis and fenders the best thing to use is Wurth sprayable seam sealer. Since the application gun is rather expensive if you don't have a bodyshop buddy, you can opt for a can of brushable seam sealer and a good 3m or Wurth undercoating to spray over the seam sealer. You can any 3m product at any bodyshop/paint supply store. The Wurth products are harder to find locally in my area.

how is the 3m weatherstrip applied properly?
is there a special technique or is following the instructions the proper technique?

You have to use it like a contact cement. Just coat both the seal and the channel it fits in with the adhesive. Let it get a little tacky before putting the seal in the groove. It works really well when done this way as opposed to just coating the seal and stuffing it in the groove. You can clean up any mess with a mild solvent like mek or enamel reducer.

For the fenders you can use a seal that comes in a roll, it is specifically for that application, I get it from the dealer, but I do believe that our host also sell it.

oh no!
I just ordered a bunch of stuff for the project today
and even asked about a seal for the fenders to the body.
he never said anything about a roll of seal for the fenders
only the small seal up at the top back of the fender near the windshield.
crap!
will they have something similar at an auto parts store?

I hope I don't get in trouble for this, but it is my opinion that parts people are as good as they used to be, to them a seal is what weatherestrip is to us, the newer models use the kind of seal that Chris mentioned, the older models use that seal that comes in a roll, try to do a search, there is a lot of info on that or call TRE Motorsports, they also carry it. regular parts store,,,,,,not a chance.

I have no clue, my Porsche dealer parts guy is very good, he knows, but I will give you an alternative, if all fails, go to your paint supplier and ask for 3M Strip Calk, that stuff works really good, I use it when I find myself in a jam.

I found the seal strip in the parts diagram of the front fender.
will call tomorrow and get it ordered.
I have the bentley manual to follow on the removal and installation of the fenders.
also putting a chin spoiler on the valance.
any tips that might not be in the manual?
