Finally got it in Primer - My project. Part 1
Been working on this car since the fall of 06 after a Ford 250 PU crawled up by rear end. Used the insurance proceeds to buy a big compressor, a Millermatic 175 Mig welder and good paint gun (Devilbiss 670 Plus). Discovered some need for chemo right after Sebring, so things got postponed this summer. I went to bare metal using every tool in the book. Primarily used a 7 in Makita grinder/polisher with 80 grit disks. Aircraft stripper was just too messy, but have used it on small items. I found about eleven layers of paint which included at least three color coats. Anyway, back at it now. Currently block sanding PPG K36 surfacer/primer. No, never done this before, but read allot and PelicanParts tech forum and this forum really helps.
http://www.autobodystore.com/forum/index.php I'm using PPG products. DPLF Epoxy primer over the bare metal, then K36 primer/surfacer (current). Will follow that with a sealer (the epoxy primer thinned a bit. The top coats will be PPG DBC 9700 (BLACK) followed with 2021 clear coat. Here are a few pics: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Bob,
Your project is coming along great! I may be calling on you for some pointers with spraying the epoxy primer once I get done blasting my car. Funny...the speed limit is the same in my garage 8D Helmethead |

Are we almost ready for base coat?
the body looks real good, I would love to see some pictures of your progress into the prep stage to base coat.

I'm basically at the same point as you except I've already blocked the car. My car was hit in the back as well in fall 06'.
I noticed your front latch panel is for a long hood but your fenders and hood are short. Is your car originally a long hood?

Yup - originally a long hood. I'm leaving it that way as i didn't want to go through the $$ of a conversion back.
I'm currently block sanding my first coats of primer filler. I'll post some pics after this weekend. I'm not in any rush as I plan for the weather to warm up before I go with base coat and clear. Probably be March before I paint. plenty of time to get it right.
