Early 911 side mirrors

Did the 69-71 911 come with a right side mirror? An option? I mounted one that was for those years and it is unusable. Cannot be adjusted to see traffic to the right and behind especially valuable on the CA freeways. I am thinking of using 72/73 that will allow a better view even though it isn't correct. Any suggestions?

Al:

Years ago, I put a stock outside right rear view mirror on my '70E. It, too, was useless. There's a reason they went to the later mirrors!

The right side mirror was an option. I don't know if it had convex glass or not. I located one from a German supplier recently, but the price was too steep for me. Over $200.

You needed to mount it further back on the door to make it work...can't go in the same spot as the driver's. I made this mistake on my 74, then made a kind of ugly extension to make it usable.
Doubt my solution is relevant to your mirror, but you get the idea.

Right side mirror

Thanks for the idea about the extension. Unfortunately I mounted my right side mirror in the same door location as the left side mirror, only to find it didn't work. I have run with it for a number of years now because of the holes in the door and the car is a concours level car. I have held a 4X6" mirror to the passenger sunvisor with rubber bands and that works very well.
I'm looking at mirrors only because the glass mirror as started to delaminate and I haven't found a solution for glass mirror replacement yet.
Does anyone have ideas? I would be very appreciative.

That's why I made the extension...so that the mirror is moved back from the stock left hand side position. Just take your mirror to a competent auto glass shop; they can replace the mirror, even make it convex if you actually want to be able to see behind you.
