962Porsche-Thank you for obtaining the color code for Oslo Blue for the BMW 2002 I was painting. Wow, almost 5 years later, I shot it last Wednesday and couldn't be happier with the results! Thanks again for your help! ;)

THIS IS MY MEXICO BLUE PAINTED 71 TRIUMPH TR6, I JUST SOLD IT TO A GUY IN GERMANY, AFTER RESTORING IT IN MEXICO

962porsche 07-11-2014 10:22 AM

the TR6 is another car that I have always like the looks of .
the down side is the chassis on them is a very bad design then to top it off they cut the back bone out by having the trans tunnel removable .
I have two in my shop now .
a 1976 that a shop did a full resto on with a bent chassis then they hacked the hell out of the car to get the body panels on it . I pulled the body off the chassis and made jigs for the build table and straightened the chassis . it was low in the rear by 55mm and high in the front by 32mm .
they used hockey pucks for body shims in the rear .

because I built the jigs for the build table I got another one the customer is having us build for racing . we are building a tube chassis for this and it's getting some extra bracing to make the chassis more rigid . in the chassis design program I have it's 28 % more rigid then stock and 2LBS more in weight . that was the best balance between the two I could find .

Sounds quite interesting, do you have any pics on the chasis.

Great work!!

A 2002 has been on my list for awhile now.

Nice to see one done right!

Love this color too.

Have been kicking around a repaint of my '68 still back and forth on a color.

Just as the right color can make a car, the wrong color can do it harm.

I love how blue shows off the lines and flares on yours!

962porsche 09-10-2014 04:41 PM

I absolutely love Mikes car !
the color is perfect for the car too what a great build .
I have always loved the 2002's and with the wide body they just look so cool .
they are a blast on the track very forgiving to drive there just a good package .

mmastro 09-10-2014 07:48 PM

Thanks guys, I'm having a blast building this car & doing almost everything myself....learning a ton! I'll keep this one for as long as I can drive (hopefully into my 80s)!

A little over a year ago, I sold my modified 77 930 and have been bummed by the increasing/outrageous asking prices for early turbos, it's truly insane. I don't think I'll ever be able to own another 930. At least I can enjoy this 2002 for many years to come and not fret about smog issues.

962porsche 09-11-2014 04:42 AM

over the years there are only a hand full of cars I regret selling .
my Mazda AZ1 , Porsche 911 SC , Porsche 996 AWD , BMW 2002 TII , 1988 M3 , not that they can't be replaced but there was just things about them that made them special .
I always say every thing is for sale if the price is right but not so much any more .
